SEATTLE -- A speeding motorcyclist was killed when he crashed into a sport utility vehicle on the Interstate 90 floating bridge Sunday evening, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Mario Blandi, 25, was killed when his motorcycle struck a sport utility vehicle in the eastbound express lanes of I-90 near Mercer Island and burst into flames, troopers said.

Witnesses said the motorcycle was likely traveling over 100 miles per hour when it crashed into the back of the SUV.

"I keep thinking, 'Was that a suicide mission?' I mean, my God, he just went so fast past us," said Elizabeth Murray, a witness.

Two women in the SUV were injured in the crash.

Investigators are trying to determine why Blandi was traveling at such a high speed.

thats a very sad story, i was catching up to sabrina yesterday on the way home and the lane was closing and she made it through but the turd in the truck wasnt going to let me in and i had no room to do so but she was quick thinking, flew to the ride side of the lane to give me room to make it. YOURE MY HERO!!! its always great to ride with a person thats quick on thier feet, if she hadnt have been so fast, i was just going to light a cigar and go kamikazee!!

You know, they think he was on a suicide mission because he chose to ride that fast?!?? Sometimes I wonder why people want to get into the profession of being a reporter. In my eyes they often make themselves look like parasitic busybodies when it comes to stuff like that. They have to build up the drama, and repeat things and say comments that they often know nothing about.

It's sad that people got hurt, its sad that the rider was riding that fast. Save it for the track! But, damn, the witnesses and reporters sound really dumb to me.

I think I am cranky today... :iorun:

The plain and simple truth doesn't sell papers (or attract viewers, etc.). This is one of the many reasons I don't subscribe to the paper, watch the news, or listen to the radio...

RIP

+1
Reporter and that eye witness don't know what they are talking about.
I bet the SUV changed lane and the rider didn't have time to react.

Carefull out there :werd:

I'd love to start a newschannel that actually reported the news.
No feel good stories or made up, sensationalized creations.

It would be true honest broadcast journalism to inform us of what
happened!

I myself give A+ grades though to both CSPAN and the Newshour
on OPB.

While I understand what everybody's saying when you're defending this biker...But I watched this accident. The guy went flying by and the suv was -already- in the middle of changing lanes (it was a little jeep kinda thing, not even a real suv) and he was going to fast to do crap. Slams their ass end, sends them into the wall (t-boning the bridge, so to speak) he pops up and over the front, bike flies down the road, burns to a crips, he's dead, spread-eagled and bloody-faced...Talk about bringing some ****ed up memories back to my mind, but this kid was just being a dumbass, sorry to bust anyone's bubble as far as 'media sensationalism' goes, but in this case, it wasn't just an exaggeration.

well i guess most of us have gone a bit fast and at 150mph all you have for steering is your body and the time it takes for the bike to respond is just nuts. so i wouldnt say he was a dumbass, i think he just took off and made a horrible decision in driving in that type of traffic with that speed

In my book, that makes him a dumbass!

well i guess we are all dumbasses. not that going 150 isnt a death ride in traffic, but im not a speed junkie. if one of us ever gets his or her end doing what we love best, i hope we are all kinder to that person. i could sure think of an easier and less painful way of leaving this earth than spiffing it to the back end of a jeep at 150 mph

:) thanks arin. yeah i saw the situation behind me.. when i ride with others i always use my mirrors to check the rear person's position, just so i know what's what. glad i made the right decision on that one for ya. :) stupid trucks.. saw i made it, but was worried even on the small legal rocket you ride you weren't gonna get that speed. ha ha. WHAT was I thinking??

RIP to the rider, but i agree made a bad decision, and it cost him. Stupid woman.. "was he on a suicide mission?" My god what IS this world coming to?! *sighs*

It is a sad situation - his mental capacity not withstanding - and I wasn't dissing you Arin. Just stating that to me, making a decision to go that fast in that kind of traffic wasn't wise. I like going fast sometimes too (although not as fast as people think), but there is a time and place. Heavy traffic ain't it. I prefer to lessen the risk to not only myself, but to others as well, and do that sort of thing elsewhere.

Sorry if you took any offense. It was not intended.
