View Full Version : to many choices what to do??
So heres the deal I want a new bike.. so Ive been looking and looking and three of the 4 big J brands are involved.. Ive sat on all the bikes listed and they all fit about the same well except for the zx-14 that fits a little better but its also a larger bike.. so id like to hear real input on why you think one bike is better then another. not just a pissing contest because your brand loyal.. The reason the gsxr is not mentioned is that its just to damn small.. I love older gixxers but the new ones just dont fit..

I have ridden both zx14s and R1 and I like them both. I'm 6'2" and the zx14 is much more comfortable for me. Making it best for long distant trips.

I voted the CBR due to cosmetics. She is a sexy sexy animal. Not sure how much like the 954 it is ride wise but I love mine and it's super cozy for the long haul. I hear the ZX14 is pretty snug too.
I've heard the gearing on the 07 R1 is a little wierd so I might pass on those till I hear more. They are sexy as well.
I'm surprised you are asking. You seem pretty informed based on all the articals you've posted.
Oh.... V8 will say anything other than a kawi. Not sure why but there is a rumor that one broke into his house and killed his family and made him it's sex slave. It did terrible things to him with gerbals and livestock. There were other things that just can't be mentioned. He escaped though and was taken in by gypsy's where he made a full recovery other then he walks funny. He never looked at Kawi again the same way. At least that's how the story goes

Rev that last part was really funny..:haha: I have done a ton of research but I also know there are people on this fourm that own at least most of the bikes listed. I like hearing what owners think.. Most of the time they have a better more real lifeveiw of whatever bike they ride. Reviews are good but the rides are way better then me and I sometimes find it hard to relate to there stories.. Id say the R1 is at the bottom of that list. Everything I've read says great for the track not so much for the street. Im taller, 6'4" so bike size is really important.. thats one reason i likes the zx14 is it really comfortable. not as much pressure on the wrist.

If you are looking for an all around bike then I say get the 14. Of course, I ride a Busa so I favor the bigger more comfortable bikes myself. You're 6'4"... the 14 will fit you better and you won't look like a monkey humping a football.
Also, don't believe people when they say a 14 won't carve corners on the street. It is more capable than many of us have skill. It will corner as fast as anyone should ride on the street. However if you are wanting to do track days, then forget it. The track is a whole different ball game.
Another thing is the 14 is currently the bike getting all the attention in the aftermarket mods department. It has a cult like following much like the Busa, so there will be alot of aftermarket goodies for it (if you are into that sorta thing).
If you're into 2-up riding, then there is another reason for the 14 over the liter bikes.
Long weekends or sport touring? You ddn't say whether that was your thing or not. Well, you CAN do it on liter bikes, but why not be more comfortable?
The others are just liter bikes... they come and go and everybody has one *shrug*.
Just my opinion.

I too ride a hayabusa and took the zx14 out a couple of times, it was alittle more bulky than the busa and i didnt get that gotta have it feeling. they are right now costing about 500 more than the 07 hayabusa at 12000 dollars so thats somethingto think about also. If you havent been on a hayabusa, maybe you could try it, otherthan a few mods it is a really beautiful piece of motorcycle and pretty nimble for being big

....sorry cant help you. 750 class or lower for me.
I had my share of the big asphalt sucking monsters and they just aint much fun in the corners. The technology is improved so much that I dont need the extra fatness to get the thrill.
...........Well maybe a 1098 would be the ONLY expection to the rule.....:whip:
Good luck with your search.

if i was smaller I would love a 07 zx-6..
Just out of curiosity, what about the 07 GSXR 1000 is smaller than the ZX10, CBR or R1? The foot pegs on the CBR are higher, so its more cramped on the legs. I just thought the Gixxer was the most comfortable and it has adjustable foot pegs and a hydraulic clutch.

I think for me it feels alot more narrow.. I personally feel bigger on the gixxer then the other bikes. its just how they felt to me..

I'm 6'2" and ride an '04 ZX-10R. I've also ridden an '06 ZX-10R, a CBR 1000RR, and the R1 (as well as countless other bikes that aren't on your list). I have to agree with people's assessment (except v8zman, of course) of the bikes. I haven't ridden a ZX-14, but it's perfectly reasonable that it would be more comfortable given your size.
At 6'2" I find the '0ZX-10R a bit cramped for freeway riding, but there's no place I'd rather be when it gets twisty. The '06 ZX-10R IS more comfortable - the bars are higher up and further back. I would add that the 14 (at 186hp, not sure what the rwhp is) doesn't have much more HP than the 10 (at 184hp, ~150rwhp). It has more torque, and it needs it with the added 100 pounds.
Final Thoughts:
-For sheer hp and acceleration, you can't beat the 10.
-The CBR hides it's additional well, and does everything competently. I find it kinda boring to ride though.
-The 14 is porker to me, but prob very comfy and better suited for longer trips and less agressive street riding. I had a heavier bike before my 10 and agree that they are capable - you can MAKE them turn quickly with proper technique it's just more tiring.
-The Yamaha is gorgeous, but lacks mid range. It's all about top end and the high RPMs. That's fine for the track, but tiresome on the street for me - I prefer more mid range. I'm lazy and don't like shifting all the time and constantly hitting the rev limiter.
Xusia--thanks for your imput this is what I was looking for someone with one of the bikes Im looking at..I love the look of the zx-10 I think If I were to made a choice today(which im not) I would get the zx-10. but thats today..who knows about tomorrow
I love the ZX10, I have one, and I have done a few things to it which have made me feel that way. I never really was revved about it in stock trim. If I were going to buy a new liter bike, I would buy the 07 gixxer. Too many cool features to pass up. I would however toss that dual exhaust and get something like a full micron with a single exit like the one they make for the 750.

I just KNEW there was something about you I liked!!!
first off thanks for the imput.. After much thinking and looking im now looking for an 06-07 cbr 1k.. i think this is the bike that best fits what I need and want outer of a liter bike.. again thanks for all the input.. after I get it ill make sure to post pictures..
ez-- I went and relooked at the 07 GSXR--- wow whaT a bike.. I made an error jumping to conclusions that the 07 would fit the same as the 06.. well it doesnt.. its a little narrow where the tank meet the seat but big deal.. and with the adjustable stock rear sets I can put the foot pegs down about 1/2 which may not sound like much but it feels very different.. im amazed!!! and it comes in beaver colors:haha:
