Please don't argue the "statistics" in this vid. I don't know how factual they are or not, that is not why I posted this. I didn't pay much attention to the numbers as much as the overall story. I already feel that the pit bull is over attacked by the general public but this was just something I found very well put together.
Like in title, this is graphic.

I agree with the video Jody. Pitbulls are over attack by the general public. Most people, who are unfamiliar with the Pit Bull Terrier, falsely believe that they are dangerous dogs. Unfortunately, Pit Bulls have a bad reputation because of some mean people who have abused their dogs and trained them to be aggressive. Pit Bulls are actually very stable, intelligent, and highly trainable. They are strong athletic dogs, and they require a guardian who is responsible and will give them plenty of exercise and training. They are very loving and loyal and make excellent animal companions.
I love doggies :)

Untill people can be made to understand that "pit bull" isn't even a breed but a reputation nothing will ever change. Pit bulls suck. I wouldn't turn my back on one for a second. They are viscious, untrustworthy animals.

If you want a good loyal and loving dog may I suggest the Staffordshire terrier.

Treat your dog like crap and it will be a mean dog. Treat them well and they won't. I've seen mean pits usually with mean owners though. I've also seen some very loving sweet pits owned by nice people. 98% of the time it's not the dog but the owner.

I made it all the way.... Not something to watch if you have a weak stomach or a soft spot for dogs.

I was more in awe (as I always am) of the ignorance involved in the argument. No lawyer defends a client by reffering to them as the most feared killer in history. Instead they use the persons name. Why not use the name of the breed instead of reffering to them by an undeserved reputation that by shear logic will convince the uninformed to be against you?

Offsetting the graphic part is alot of shots of loving pits with loving families. I personally love the dogs but have no experience owning one. I did have a black lab that tried to eat my nephew for no damn reason. Unfortunately he came from an abusive home and we just supervised him carefully when children were around. That and cops and the cable guy. (he hated the leather they had on.)

It's funny cuz I feel the exact same way about people.

I am a FIRM believer that ALL dogs act the way they are raised to act. I myself have never had a pit bull atack me nor have I even seen one attack a person. I hvae had many friends who had pits and actuall one person on this board breeds them and they have the most loving and loyal pets I have ever seen. My family had German Shepards throughout my childhood and it wasn't until I was grown that I heard they are supposed to be one of the worst dogs to have if you have small kids around. Bull****. If you raise a dog around kids they will be fine around kids. and actuall quite protective. If you are mean and cruel to a dog, ANY DOG, that dog will in turn be mean and cruel.

I don't want anybody to get me wrong here. I'm not against the breed. Rather I'm trying to point out that those people who advocate for the breed are doing themselves a greater disservice by reffering to them using a negative reputation.

When I was younger I had a staffordshire/labrador cross. Looked exactly like a staffordshire with the most laid back loving personality you could ever want. When I take him out kids always wanted to pet him and the standard reaction from parents was "No, thats a pit bull. They bite honey". When I'd correct them and say, "No, it's ok. He's a staffordshire terrier" everything was different.

FYI, pit bull is the nickname given to the stafforshire breed based upon it's fighting ability when trained to do so.

oh I see

...and no Brina....crazy alien monkeys just can't be trussted at all. note how the handler has a very firm grip at the base of the neck? If this alien monkey were to turn aggresive the handler would simply twist his hand at such an angle as to snap the ugly bastards neck like a twig. Never ever trust a monkey kids

my weiner dog rufus tries to eat anyone that comes near me and he could really gnaw your leg off in a few hours or so if you just sat there and watched him. so its kind of sad to single out one breed all of the time. if we always have legislation to take yet another freedom away just because this guy or that girl doesnt agree with the other, before long we will have no more rights and then anarchy

I have argued and fought with people on this topic many times. Pits are great dogs, any dog or animal is great!! Its how you raise them, like owner-like dog. People who say all pits are nasty and there ment to cause harm is complete bull ****! Its very sad to see an animal beaten, shot, or set on fire. It just sucks!
I was at a lake and I seen a pit that had a real thick chain like the one off of saw the movie around his neck. I asked the owner what the hell was that for? So he can be tough and learn how to swim in the worst condition. Are you kidding? After almost getting into a fight with this f*ck bag the cops showed up and we both had to leave.
Im not a pit owner but Ive been around alot of them and There very friendly and as you can see in that video clip, they can be around kids and adults just fine! Yeah some are trained bad and beatin to make them nasty, but you cant say that all pits are bad!
Just my :2cents: .

i love pitties... all the ones i've been around over the years have been the sweetest dogs, even the ones that were trained for protection. any dog that is TRAINED to be mean or aggressive will turn out that way... as well as any dog thats been abused and mistreated. it has nothing to do with the breed, just their environment. in fact i've known a lot more labs and blue heelers that have attacked people...

and for the record, the pit bull is not the same as the staffordshire terrier, although they do share very similar breed characteristics. there is actually a pit bull breed registry, they just arent AKC recognized. there is a staffordshire terrier, staffordshire bull terrier, and pit bull terrier. hard to tell the difference between the three, but they definitely arent the same dog.

I'm kind of with the AKC Tess. You can't mix a R6 and a CBR together and call it a Yamonda or expect culture to say it's legit because it was done. Same thing with the elusive "pit bull terrier".

regardless of what breed the dog is, if you do anything inhumane to an animal you deserve your balls to be chewed off!
95% of the "pits" I have spent time with were sweeter than 95% of all other dogs.

I'm not sure where you get your information, but there IS a breed, only one, that is a "pit bull". That would be the American Pit Bull Terrier. It was originally bred for pit fighting and is not recognized by the AKC (don't get me started on the AKC and its political crap regarding recognizing breeds.... )
However, the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is recognized by UKC and the ADBA.

Other breeds were also bred for fighting and included high breds of terriers and mastiffs for example. While not "Pit Bulls" they are still dogs used for pit fighting. I am assuming this is what you mean when you use the term "Pit bulls suck. I wouldn't turn my back on one for a second. They are viscious, untrustworthy animals."

Most people think of true pit bulls as being over square heads, and all muscle, but in fact are more lean, agile, extremely athletic, gamey, and have astounding stamina. They are bred for stamina and trength to weight ratio, unlike the over muscle bound staffordshire terriers.

I currently own my 4th APBT. I (or family member) have owned and have been involved with showing and handling them for almost 20 years. I would encourage anyone to come meet "Amber"... but you better be prepared to PLAY all day long!!! She doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She doesn't know she is a "Pit Bull" and we don't tell her. In fact when we take her to the dog park and someone asks if she is a Pit Bull, we reply coyly in a whisper, "Yes, but sshhhhhh.. we don't tell her because she doesn't know.":haha:

Marayos dogs are some of the coolest dogs Ive ever met! They think theyre lap dogs sometimes. When I am able to properly care for a dog I am considering a rottweiler or Alaskan Malamute.

A good friend of mine has a pit bull named Maggie. She's an adorable, mellow dog with the cutest lazy eye.
Maggie was well trained, groomed and loved by many from birth.

Maggie does have a small problem with chasing and snatching croquet balls from the
field of play!! She goes absolutely bonkers when we play croquet and she steals the balls!!!

Wikipedia: The American Staffordshire Terrier is a breed (http://www.answers.com/topic/dog-breed) of dog (http://www.answers.com/topic/dog). The breed is descended from American dog fighting breeds and was intended to be a show (http://www.answers.com/topic/show-dog) strain of the American Pit Bull Terrier (http://www.answers.com/topic/american-pit-bull-terrier-1). American Staffordshire Terriers were first recognized by the American Kennel Club (http://www.answers.com/topic/american-kennel-club) in 1936 (http://www.answers.com/topic/1936).

Petey from Our Gang was a pitty...and one of the first American Staffordshire Terriors to be recognized by the AKC. An AmStaff can be registered with the AKC as an Am Staff as well as with the UKC as a Pit, but it doesn't work the other way around because the AKC has much stronger rules for their confirmation standards.

We bred and raised Am Staffs. Loved them, but also loved Pitties just as much. I had a couple friends that did Pitty recuse and the most amazing thing I found was that no matter how horrible shape they were in due to human treatment, they were still the most loveable dogs when they come to live with someone that loves them. Their love is truly unconditional.

Both breeds can be a handful as far as spirit is concerned, but I will own a million of them!! I currently have a Staffordshire Bull Terrior. They are smaller and easily distinguishable from the AmStaff or Pit. But I've seen AmStaffs and Pits that were not distinguishable from each other.

So to list them all...Pit Bull Terrior, American Staffordshire Terrior; Staffordshire Bull Terrior; and Bull Terrior (Spuds MacKenzie).

Lots of really great info in here and I like reading all the opinions. Buttom line is that there are far too many ignorant people out there that unfortunately prefer to stay that way. Please please please keep fighting for this wonderful breed.
