Akira Yanagawa took fourth on his Kawasaki and Goeff May was the top Pirelli finisher on his M4 EMGO Suzuki.
Mat Mladin looked to have an excellent day crashed his Suzuki out of the lead. He lost the front in the infield section on lap five but remounted. He charged to eighth, but lost two positions on the last lap.
Yamaha's Eric Bostrom led the early going and was a close third when he pitted for a new tire at the end of lap 11.
Other crashers included Jamie Hacking and Aaron Yates, who came together on lap one. Kawasaki's Hacking was done, but Yates finished 11th. Tommy Hayden ran wide to avoid the carnage but finished 8th.
Rog Hayden crashed around the turn one/turn two area. Luca Scassa crashed in the same spot Mladin did on lap nine.
