Oh I'm thinking it's time for an upgrade to an almost 15 year old bike. Since welllll, some of those fasteners are looking a bit worn when I try and take off the fairings. lol

I am working on getting us a local hook up. What I need to know so I can research is what size the most replaced bolts, screws, etc. I can get the U-shaped clips that we all break or bend and cost way too much from the dealer as well as the button head screws for the body panel that seem to bail when bouncing off the rev limiter!
I just replaced my windscreen plastic screws with black anodized aluminum because one of the plastic ones head snapped off under all of my brute strength. Plus they make me cool.

So...if you are interested in helping me get some common sizes into a list I can get some costs up because I know I want them before I NEED them.

Actually thats some great info. Im thinking every time I do work on the bike I run the chance of losing some damn little bolt/fastener/nut and this is a good insurance policy.

Cool! For those that dont know their bolts, I need to know the thread size which will be something like #10-32 x 1" for a metric. 10=10mm (the width of the threaded part if holding the bolt vertically. 32=32 threads per inch. And the 1" is how long the bolt is overall.

Don't forget I have a local hookup so get me your info. Some of the bolts have to be ordered in 25's, 50's, or 100's but that isn't a problem because the amount you pay at the dealer for just ONE bolt or specialty screw is about the same cost as many more from my hookup! I will be keeping the overflow on hand if you dont want to have that many on hand. (lol) Just pay for what you want.

Jody, I'm new here, but thought I'd put my $0.02 in anyway:

I never go to a dealer anymore for virtually any bolt. I have 5 vintage bikes, used to have an older KX, too. The first thing to invest in are good tap & die sets. If you take off a bolt for which the threads are a bit worn or otherwised damaged, a quick turn with a die will make 'em like new...likewise with taps to clean up the threaded area they screw into. When they're too far gone or missing, the only place you need to know about is Parkrose Hardware, on Sandy Blvd., about 1/2 mile east of the I-205 onramp. That place has EVERYTHING. I couldn't have done half the repairs, custom work, etc., on my bikes without them.....and at prices far less than dealers. I remember pricing the bolt for my KX where the chain tensioner attaches to the swingarm, the dealer wanted something like $2.43 for it; Parkrose had an identical one for $0.08! They have little stuff you'd never think, like the clips you attach to jet needles on RS carbs; U-clamps for fairings. I've never been dissapointed.

Parkrose Hardware ROCKS! Don't pay 10-20x as much from a dealer....
Now, if you're just wanting to bling out, LP has anodized aluminum fasteners, but for folks like me with more bikes than sense (as some accuse me of) Parkrose is my second favorite place to be. My first is riding up to Windy Ridge on SR503/FS90-25-99.
