i just received an email last night from Robert Harris's (buttn pushin monkey's) brother... apparently Rob was hit by a drunk driver on his way home from work friday night, he was launched off the bike and killed on impact. His brother asked me to spread the word to the bike group. He will be missed, i know that... i know i'll miss getting his funny little messages at work every night (we both worked for OML).

His signature line read:
"No Regrets. That's my Motto.
That and 'Everybody Wang Chung tonight' "

i just received an email from my work's HR dept regarding roberts memorial service:

"Many of you have been asking when services will be held for Robert Harris. His family has made the following arrangements and invite you to participate in celebrating Robert's life. They have asked me to share with you that there will be an opportunity for you to share your stories about Robert during the service.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 5th at 1:00 p.m. at the Junction City Fire Department, 1755 Juniper Street, Junction City. The fire station is located on the far end of town right behind the Safeway store.

Additionally, a Sunday viewing will take place at Rest Haven, 3900 Willamette Street

The family is in the process of setting up an account for donations to be provided to Tiffany Cates in lieu of flowers. Tiffany was Robert's partner in life. As his mother put it, although they were not legally married, they were emotionally married. Donations may also be made to Doernbechers Children's Hospital.

Thank you for your prayers and support for Robert's family during this difficult time"

sadly, i have a mandatory work meeting that day at 2pm so i dont think i'll be able to make it to the memorial like i'd been planning.

He was the one of the very FIRST guys that showed up that sunny Sunday and we all took off to hit Highway 38. It was the first time I had rode with a group in the Eugene area, and I thought he was the coolest dude. We ended up talking about our 120 MPH catch up spurts we made on the group as we were getting close to Mapleton.

I know it sounds selfish but it breaks my heart that God takes such good people out of my life, and everyone elses.
I didnt know you that well Robert, but you made enough of an impression with me, that I will not forget you. I hope you are happy where you are, and that you are just as fast as you were here......

not selfish at all jeff... i feel the same way... he was a good person and it makes no sense to have to lose the good people.

amy i'm going to try to get out of my meeting, or at least be permitted to show up late... so will i see you there possibly?

It's possible, if it's not raining. I think it would be awesome to get a huge group out there on bikes. Not sure though. I've got school, then a window of time, and work. It might not work out.

Post up if you are planning on making it peeps!!

Since many of us will be using HWY 99 N, (I feel like a broken record), How about the parking lot at Gilbert Center near the bowling alley? Noon +/- sound good.

Any other thoughts?

It is in the parking lot of a mobil home company. Uhhhh.. yeah..that's all I can think of. But..it's pretty distinctive if you know what DB looks like.

unless i'm seriously mistaken its the dutch bros that is in the parking lot of "Sunburst/Karsten Homes" on hwy 99. its on the right when you are headed north. very easy to spot. not incredibly far from that bowling alley. that sounds fine with me. i will make a serious effort to drag my bike out of the garage if the rain isnt falling... hopefully dad has moved the busa out of my way.

Put me in for a solid "eh".

If the weather and my knee feel good I might be inclined to head down. I'll call it in the morning. I'll post up right before I leave if I do, I'll PM some one my cell # before I head out.

Fair warning though, I don't do memorial services. I'll watch the bikes.

I just got home from the memorial service. Robert was a Marine, EMT, and worked at the hospital, so it was a large service. Brought tears to my eyes more than once. I would really like to thank Amy (Fade) for speaking on behalf of both websites and the members during the open mic portion of the service. I couldn't have done better if I had had a month to write it. THANK YOU Amy!!!!!

Robert was very obviously loved and respected by many people. May his family find peace, and may he rest in peace.

Thank you Fade for being such a great spokes woman for us. I wished deeply that I could have made it, but being responsible for work, and being sick as all hell did a good job of preventing my attending.

Robert,

I hope that maybe you can see whats in my heart from where you are, and I am very sad that you had to move onto another part of life. I feel safe in knowing that when I get there, I have someone to greet me, and show me the ropes. I hope you are getting to watch over your family, and to be an angel to them. I hope that there is an ever presence of sun, beautiful flowers, and smooth windy roads with long stretches so you can open the throttle up. I hope you have your fill of whatever your heart desires. I am sorry to see a brother go, but I know you are in paradise. We earth bound souls should all feel better knowing you are in a beautiful place, and that you 'got our backs'. Take care, brother. See you on the flip side...

All my best,
Kris

it was my honor to speak for the sites here and the bike community as a whole. that service was a lot more moving than I expected it was going to be. Robert was so loved by so many people, it was astounding to see the support and the packed fire station. I'm glad we got to go out there and represent the group. Thanks guys, for all you who came out and those who had the service and Robert in your thoughts today.

RIP Robert. You were much loved and we miss you so much already. I was so touched to hear of how much you served our country and community. Thank you for being such an amazing friend to people and such a giving person.

A beautiful day, beautiful service and obviously a beautiful soul.

The huge Fire Station Garage was packed with warmth, respect, sorrow, smiles and tears. Robert still had people laughing and smiling though his physical self was done. I believe "Bob" finished his work early here and was called on because of that. He touched uncounted people, even those of us he never met in a good and loving way.

I felt the voyeur, as if peeking into Robert's life from outside his cozy home. but it was O.K. and once again I was reminded of how we all effect those around us.

Amy, thank you for going forward for us while we stayed standing in the back. I hope that the people there understood why we were there and I think you said the best it could be said.

Peace to those that knew Bob.
