hey girls, i want to know what type of gear you like... brand, colors, leather -vs- textile... that sort of thing. i'm going to try to help the guys down at cottage grove yamaha beef up their women's gear section, because it REALLY needs the help... but i thought i'd get a few opinions from the other ladies on what they like!! so please post up your thoughts! thanks :)

I'm a fan of textiles. I own a full suit of the Joe Rocket Ballistic series. Black of course (A. it goes with any bike i should purchase in the future, without have to color-code with each bike i buy, and B. slimming of course! lol) Just don't tell the motorcycling class I chose that color, since they pound it in your head to be "visible". Here's my thing, if the cage owner doesn't see the FLAMING brightness of our bikes, do you think a stipe of white is really going to detour them!? lol Textiles are easy to move in, and have less squeaky-ness. But should I do track days one of these days, I'd probably opt for leathers, after all if textiles would work for the track, don't you think Rossi would be wearing them!? ;)

I think that both textiles and leathers have their place. When its really quite hot to be out riding, textiles are going to be the shiznit, and leather will help against the bite of cold. But, mostly I wear my leathers. Just because I have a strong adversion to skin meeting pavement these days. (gee, wonder why, lol) I think that ass will only regenerate once in a lifetime, I am not willing to test my theory. I have black leathers right now, but my textile jacket and helmet are matching blue. I want to stay away from 'girlie' colors, because its just not my thing. If I ever get to ride on the track, I have the same jacket as my textile in leather, and that black helmet too, so i am set. I am covered in gear.

I started with a Fieldsheer textile jacket, then moved to a Powertrip leather, then to an Alpinestar leather jacket, which is now my favorite by far. It actually keeps me cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. I also have a few pairs of Icon leather gloves (I find their fingers are long enough for me in the ladies line, which I've found to be rare) and Icon Standard jeans, which have the Kevlar reinforcments. I don't wear those jeans a ton, cuz they are not insanly comfortable, but they do give more protection than just my normal jeans. I also have some boots. But I don't remember what brand they are....Nitron? Yeah, I dont know. But they are cool. All in all, I love love Alpinestar the most. It fits me best. And they have women's gear in non-girly colors, which is one of my only beefs with Icon, cuz most of their stuff is geared more towards the lady passenger. But yeah. Goood thread.

What.. not a fan of the "kitty" line!? Speaking of losing your ass. HAHAH. Actually was looking into getting a pair of reinforced jeans. On stupidly hot days, I just can't bring myself to wear the full gear, but i still want to protect my arse. ;) Let me know if you guys have found any companies that make a decent pair. :)

The womens Icon Standard Jeans aren't actually too bad. The only annoying issue I have with them is they go up to almost my waist, and I reallly don't like that. I like low rise jeans, meh. But, they work good, are warmer than normal jeans, and come in black and blue. Yay. I would be a little leery of the sizing, it took me awhile to figure it out. They run about a size small. I wear a 4 or 6, but got a 7/8 in these jeans. Theres my :2cents:

You rock, thanks girl!! Oh and what is an avg to pay for them, is there one store better than the next to purchase them at?

Welll.. depends on where you are willing to go. No one carries them in stock, so you have to order them. In eugene, there is a great store called Discount Motorcycle that gives great prices compared to other shops. Avg price....uhh I think I remember paying 65 or something? I dont remember. I think they retail for close to 75.

Yeeoch. I mean I know they're nice jeans built for riding, but I could go to Nordstrom for those prices. hehe. I'll look into them and see where to get them. Better fit REALLY well for that kinda money. Otherwise back to the jeans, and if i'm feeling lucky, textile pants. lol

Well, they do have reinforced seams, heavier denim thats less likely to rip, reinforced kness, built for street riding. Keep in mind that textile is going to cost more. And as far as protective wear in bottoms, those are the cheapest youll find. I've also heard dragginjeans are a good jean to ride in. Never tried them on, as you have to order them online I htink....

I'm bummed no one has any IN house, so as to try on, before you have to deal with shipping and returns etc.. :( But I know where you're coming from. Just ouch, a lot to spend right now is all... thankfully the "hot" weather is still a few months off. :)

Yeah I def agree. I hated having to deal with returns and such, I had to order in a size 9 first (manufacturer said they ran two sizes too small), those were wayyyyy too big, then i ordered a 5, I couldnt get them on, then I ordered a 7, and they are alright. It was def a pain. but, the last time I checked, no one carries womens standard jeans, so. You gotta do what ya gotta do. I'd let you try mine on if you want. But you dont live very close to me. ha.

if you want some womens riding pants that are cool enough for summertime but still offer all the protection you want... my mom bought some Joe Rocket "cleo" pants for ladies... they have waterproof liners for warmth and protection from the elements, but large zip-out panels so you have big mesh sections (not see-thru, i promise). they keep you very cool in the summer and very warm in the winter... still have all the proper pads and such. check joerocket.com for more info on those, i know she LOVES them!

I only wear leather even on the hot hot days. If I drink plenty of water and keep moving I'm fine. Alpinestars work great for me. Do you want to look good or be protected? For me personally I will have more confidence riding if I know I am protecting myself the best I can in the event I do go down.

Soooo happy to hear that. I hope more will decide on the leather. Yeah its hot on the hot days but I would rather come home sweaty than be waiting for a skin graft. Taking a cool shower beats the hell out of having some nurse pick gravel out you.

I know you said "Hey Girls," which implies women only, but I wanted to make a few quick comments about leathers vs. textiles.
1. Both can be warm or cool. Depends on design and contruction.
2. Leather slides. Textiles grip, causing you to roll and increasing your potential for injury (as well as the textile garment's potential for damage).
3. Leather is generally more stiff and flaps less.

I've used both and I think textiles have their place, but leather is what I wear whenever I can.

the main reason i was adressing this as "hey girls" was because i wanted to see what brands/styles/materials the girls wanted to see in the gear depts. i was talking to the parts mgr at c.g. yamaha and he wanted me to research what the women i knew were interested in, so that they had an idea what would sell the best if they were to order it in to beef up their women's dept.

i agree that both leather and textiles have their place. as with everything, it comes down to personal preference. i just figured i'd get the opinions of some other lady riders so that it wasnt just ME telling them what to order, ya know?
