I'm going to the Air Base today with my son for his official interview with the Air Force Academy's
Director of Admissions. He told us he'd give us a tour of the base. I hope we get to meet the pilots that
scrambled yesterday.

There were a lot of bikes in the parking lot! I was glad to see that. I'm so bummed. I got so wrapped up in what the head mechanic was telling us about the F-15s he was showing us that I forgot to take pictures of my son sitting in the cockpit. Doh!!! He was so funny. He no more than sat down in the seat and put his hand on the stick when he looked up at me with a look that I've seen on his face when something in him clicks in and he knows something feels right to him and he says, "Dad, I know what I want to do now!" Those guys out there have some damn coooool toys. We even got to see a gatling gun in all its naked glory. I couldn't keep my hands of the planes. There was something about their lines that just begged to be touched... I think I need to go take a cold shower...

Hey, I missed you! So, did you get to a stop off at the 125th and see all of their boats, ATV's, Dirt Bikes, sandrails? Also, were you on base when the planes took off? They even had an engine run this morning...those are fun to stand in on!

We had to leave just before the planes were going to take off. I was really bummed about that, but work was calling and I had to get back to it.

We got to see the hanger where they were working on jet engines and then the hanger where they were working on the F-15s.

Sorry we missed you. It would have been nice to be able to say, hi, in person.

Oh, that's to bad. I'm not big into planes, but the F-15 is one bad ass plane!

Yeah, I haven't been in one place for very long this whole week. Otherwise manage readiness spares packages. More or less, support for rapid deployment for oh shit times. :shooting:

Talking with my realtor lady, she's really good friends with the wife of one of the pilots that scrambled!

:rad:

It really is a small world.

I wonder if those of us who've never flown a plane, let alone flown one in combat, can ever even come close to imagining the rush that those guys feel when they go to Battle Stations and get their orders to GO!!!

The feeling of, "OK!!! IT'S ON NOW, BITCH!!! Whoever's up here look for trouble, here it comes," must be such an incredible rush.

I wish they could tell us how long it was between getting the order to go and when those guys were in Seattle. I bet they were flattening their eyeballs against the back of their skulls. Damn, how I want to know that feeling 'cause I bet it's, mmmm gooood.

I got the NOTAM a day or two before and the pilot should be seriously worried about his license at the very least. Not defending Obama, but any pilot should check this before they fly. I got the alert automatically on my phone....

Don't know that, but from wheels up at Mountain Home to the coast is about 5 minutes.

Fun Fact: The F-14 carries 14,000 pounds of fuel and can burn it faster than it can jettison it.

Not that it is really relevant but here is some more eye candy :mep

We makes a bunch of structural parts for this engine. Kind of cool to see the final product. All I see is a funny looking round and gray casting...

You make a LOT of parts for GE.

Another friend of mine used to work there, he made...Knees and hips!
