Coming back from the beach yesterday just after having a sweet time on hwy 53:thumbup: I got on it to pass a long line of campers before the passing lane ended. I made it passed and slowed down then shortly after heard the painful melody of a black and white Dodge Charger and one of Oregon's finest :facesmack: The officer was surprisingly a very nice guy. He told me I probably knew why he stopped me and I replied " Ya :8You got me".After a nice conversation about the recent abundance of deer and elk crossing 26 in the daytime, He informed me that because I was a good sport he wasn't going to arrest me and impound the bike:smack: But would have to sight me for the speed. He said that he put a note for the judge on the ticket that I was a good guy and handed me an $1,184 ticket for doing 120 in a 55. He also added that it looked like I was slowing down when he clocked me:thinking:. It just doesn't pay to try to get around traffic.

It doesn't pay to go that fast in ANY traffic.

OUCH!!! So many times that could have been any one of a number of forum members... It might sound like a really high speed, but it's so easy to get to that speed and beyond with today's bikes AND still be well shy of being reckless that we have to really stay on our toes to avoid attracting that kind of attention.

I'm stunned that he didn't arrest you and impound the bike. I thought that 30 mph over the speed limit was arrest and loss of license and that anything 100 mph and higher was arrest, impound, automatically kiss one's license good-bye, and so on. Good on ya for stopping and takin' your medicine instead of compounding the error by trying to run. Stopping and taking one's medicine takes character, especially when you know that doing so is gonna hurt. It was the right thing to do. I hope that the judge reads what the officer wrote and that s/he goes as easily on you as possible.

Shit Kev, that does suck - but I would say for sure that you lucked out. As the Doc says, "Good on ya for stopping and takin' your medicine"

Shit Kev! You were pretty lucky there. The stupid thing was that when Eric pointed this thread out the first thing I thought before I read what the thread was about (knowing your SOP) was "What Ditch did someone have to pull you out of this time"..

Wow! Sorry to hear what happened; I concur with Dale, you did do the right thing and didn't run. I hope things work out; these things tend to put a damper on one's desire to go fast after a hefty ticket.http://www.oregonsportbike.com/forum/images/icons/icon9.gif

And Jackie's reaction was?

$1184 is a pretty cheap lesson in picking your battles.

I'm very glad that it wasn't a more expensive lesson (eg hospital time).

You got off easy there Kevin, good on that. I've been there and done that man, it sucks. Learn something from it and you're a better man. Good luck.
