I didn't see the post to fill him in. Tilt customs is the shiz. I love my one piece but it's a real pain when you need to walk around or hang out and eat. Tilt offers any suit in a one or two piece.

Which ever you go with it's a great price and come with 360 degree waist zipper. I can't emphasize enough how important it is to have your jacket zipped to your pants.

I think it was in another thread that you asked about leather vs. textile and the responses all favored leather, citing better abrasion resistance, penetration resistance, etc. Well, I hate to be the one to complicate matters (actually, I love it:laughing:), but it's become more complicated than that these days as new textile products make their way into motorcycle clothing.

Let me start by saying that my first preference is still for leather, but that may no longer be the most rational choice to make. I own a Dainese D-Stone textile jacket. The manufacturer claims that the material has 60% greater abrasion resistance than leather. This jacket is now my jacket of choice (full circumference zipped to Dainese leather pants) in hot weather because it flows far more air than leather, though I don't own perforated leathers, yet.

I also own a RevIT' Cayenne Pro textile two-piece suit that has material on it with tiny ceramic beads attached to it in the impact/most likely to slide areas that is supposed to be substantially more abrasion resistant than even the D-Stone fabric. It to fully zips together and is at least a three-season suit in that it has a thermal liner, a waterproof liner, and the outer shell. It has a lot of venting built in for riding in warmer weather. I've only had the Cayenne Pro for a couple of months, but I'm becoming very fond of it. I could ride and feel comfortable in temperatures in the low to mid-30s even without using my heated gear.

Bottom line: find stuff that fits you well, has CE certified armor, and is well-made so that it won't come apart at the seams when you go down. Make sure it fits tight so that the protective pads stay in the proper places when you fall and are sliding along the ground in them. Be prepared to buy several different jackets/pants/one-piece suits over time. The 8-inch zippers, in my opinion, are barely adequate. They may help keep the jacket and pants from sliding up or down too much if you are on your back, but if you found yourself sliding on your stomach, you could lose a lot of skin. I'm very uncomfortable riding in any gear that doesn't zip together. I'm somewhat more comfortable with the 8-inch zipper set-up, but not that much more comfortable. I feel very comfortable with a two-piece suit with a full zipper. A one-piece adds another degree of security, but sometimes at a significant cost in terms of convenience/comfort (how tightly do you like your pants to cradle your jewels?).

I think you're getting JD mixed up with Nate. (out of the gate) thread. Maybe not; I don't know...

Good info though. I know textile has come a long way. Hell, I hope to get a set of textile pants and a jacket for commuting. I hate stop and go traffic on I-205 in the 105 degree summer heat wearing black leathers...

You're probably right on me being confused, yet again:haha:.

How true about the stop-and-go in traffic and heat!!! That was a big reason why I invested in some quality textile stuff that breathes. But as good as the textiles are, I'm still gonna shop for some perforated leather, maybe in Kangaroo, or perhaps some goat skin from Langlitz...

Kangaroo for the win!

I kept the jacket I slid 100' in last June just in case anyone ever wanted to debate gear choices. 80' of that was on very abrasive broom finished concrete and my jacket is less then 1/2 way through. I still recall all the thoughts that went through my head during the slide and not one of those was about my gear holding up.

And THAT is one of the things that I love most about having good gear!!!

It's something most of us never think about before hand and you have to be pretty self-observant to even realize it afterward, but surviving an event that would have devastated one's body had one not been wearing good gear, and to have done so without the slightest worry about the gear holding up is very cool. Great observation, Flyte.

I still have the helmet that I had on when I slid/tumbled 280 feet down Hwy 26. Like your jacket, it's ground about half way through in places. I keep it around to remind me what can happen.

This is what happens when your gear doesn't hold up (for the uninitiated)
