If you hang around here long enough to make it through the rest of the vetting process, you'll find that it's a pretty good time here, and we all know each other well enough that none of us need to use turn signals when we ride together.

We have a lot of fun here.

MarinesBiatch
02-04-2010, 07:47 PM
Well then here's my opinion: It's pretty pathetic.

Sorry. As Jon pointed out, we don't know him, so attacking someone we don't know really isn't making this supposed "friendly" atmosphere very friendly.

I know newb's are one's that we watch to make sure they aren't just joining to sell stuff and what not, but he really hasn't done anything wrong other than he doesn't seem to know how to spell. Okay, and the initial attack on you. That was stupid. And the "sucka" comment-- But maybe I just don't understand his language?? Anyway, he did say he was joking with you. In the beginning, I was a lot worse (at least according to you), so I don't think some of the super nasty comments (i.e., "grow up Spanky") were necessary.

"Spanky, grow up" is "super nasty" in the world you inhabit? Wow. In my world, it's at the
extremely mild end of how I would treat a newby coming into any setting showing his kind
of attitude with nothing to back it (like a track record of high performance in the relevant arena).

Maybe it's a guy thing, especially among those that have long histories in sports. If a newby
comes in talking smack, those that have been there a long time are charged with helping the
newby learn as quickly as possible how to fit in, or end up being fed to the wolves. At that point,
Itks newby's choice: continue acting out and get eaten alive or learn to take constructive criticism
and thrive.

When I trained attack dogs, I learned that one harsh correction worked far better than a bunch
of weak ones that left the pup thinking it was coming in and instantly becoming an alpha dog...

Look, it was my opinion. I don't really care. And "helping the newby to learn as quickly as possible how to fit in" is not by attacking him. And constructive criticism, is NOT what was being said. Period. Again, IMO. You all can say and do what you want, I was entering my two cents. I have already said I don't think he's all that great. I'm just saying let's give him a chance before just banning him or making him feel like he needs to just leave. I've played sports too, and I get what you are trying to say. I do. I just think some of it was entirely unnecessary.

I may not have trained attack dogs, but given that I've raised a few regular ones, I did notice that when you correct it, you do it immediately. Not 4 days later after however many other people have "corrected" the problem. Obviously this isn't just you.

This horse has been mostly beaten to death, but the thing is, the situation was handled and first responders did their thing by "helping the newby learn as quickly as possible how to fit in" yet people kept saying things that could hardly be construed as constructive anything. Again, your post may be the one quoted, but it wasn't only you. Not even close.

This whole thing is ridiculous. Yes, Solosix came in talking some smack and given that we didn't know him, maybe the first responses were justified. Somewhat. Overly harsh? Debatable, but he had -something- coming for what he said. It was handled, but people decided that jumping on this bandwagon was the cool thing of the moment and "constructive criticisms" turned into unneccessary comments shortly after the original responding posts.

Cliff's notes version so far.

The "Spanky"in question shows up says he's 36, yet talks and spells like something my 12 y/o daughter would bring home from the playground, and got a touch rude with the lead lady. I, in my normal charming and endearing way, suggested he cool his jets.

The self described "ADHD clown" then took a shot at me which I left alone for someone (anyone) to triumph the family relationship we have here. Jon came along and called things how he saw them. Then Dale agreed with Jon and offered some extra insight to said "clown".

Erica gets offended and airs he thoughts vocally. One thought that calling him "spanky" was super nasty (I'm still working on how she came to that conculsion since I know for a fact that she is fully aware of how utterly brutal this group can be)

Then Paul come is as the good husband and defends his wife in what is turning into an internet argument that Erica is keeping alive.

Meanwhile Mr. Six hasn't logged in for 2 days.

Did I miss anythign?

MarineHawk

Alright, well. I had a much longer version written when my internet died and I lost it all, so I'll stick with my own semi-Cliff Notes version.

First of all, this really has nothing to do with defending Erica and I actually resent the fact that anything I said seems to have been dismissed because of that thought. I didn't make any attempt to say "Erica's good, Dale/Noah/Jon/Mike are bad." I don't think that and really, any one of you should know better. Except Dale, who I've never had the pleasure of meeting.

This goes into the principles of this site as I have always understood them, at least until the past few days. I saw a guy who made some stupid comments and got slammed for it right up front. Ok then, fair enough and I'm not arguing with that. What blew my mind was how most of us seemed to turn into a pack of rabid dogs slobbering to get a piece of the action, even if it came well past a point where even Kris said everyone, slow your roll, it's ok, lets give him a chance. I know most of us here are admitted dicks/assholes, but was it all necessary -after- that?

You obviously missed a couple somethings. Do you remember posting this?

"Yeah, it's all necessary. I can handle my own but it's better for me to stall the proceedings so the general population can chime in on the offenders status."

So, I chimed in. I wasn't offended by jack shit until now. I gave my "chime", and then I get slammed for it. Ok, so you are a hypocrite. Awesome. Everyone else can give their "chime", but not me. Makes a lot of sense.

I just didn't think any of it was necessary after Kris said to leave him alone. I know how brutal we can be. I should rephrase the "super nasty"-- which by the way, was not meant as an attack on Dr. Duc, it was at everyone randomly a few days after Kris said to leave it, not leaving it alone-- to a waste. It just wasn't necessary. I posted two other posts that STATED that I DO NOT agree with what Solo-Six had to say. Just to LEAVE IT ALONE. So basically, what you're telling me is that you, as well as all the others, only chose to read certain excerpts that I wrote, and do not entirely comprehend what I said. Everything after the 1st was unnecessary. And I'm sorry, but I didn't keep the argument going. You should go back and see where this initially started up again. I added my "chime" after you said "the general population" could chime in. So I did. So by doing what you basically opened the door to, I'm keeping this going? Right. You left the flood gates open yourself with that statement.

And thank you very much, but I don't need Paul's help in standing on my own. You of all people should know I don't need his "rescue."

I haven't made any attacks on anyone, if you want this internet argument to die, then fine. But I reserve the right to rebut anything that anyone says to or about me or my beliefs.

First off, I think if Jane told you to ease up, then maybe everyone else should get the hint too. Or maybe we're both either not reading into it enough, or too far.

Oh I get it... I can't make my opinions known unless they are along the same path as the others. I'm sorry, I have my own opinions and they sometimes differ from that of the others.

Third, I've already said Jon and Dale didn't "hurt my feelings" or what not. They have nothing to do with my irritation at this point. Like I said before, I only said that I thought they should leave it alone. In more words than that, yes, but that's the bottom line of what I was trying to say. There was nothing said about my being "miffed" at them responding. That is what you decided to read into it. All I said was that I thought it should be left alone.

Oh, but they DO poop.

There are several known cases of houses being struck by frozen airplane-lavatory waste, euphemistically known as “blue ice.” The ice can form when a plane’s lavatory develops an external leak; frozen at high altitude, the waste warms and dislodges as a plane descends. Luckily, there are no known instances of people being struck by blue ice. Cos that's be, y'know, really gross.
