Hey guys and girls!
Just thought I would drop the question about what tire you use on the track and what you like about it. I have been using Michelin Power Race and I'm about to try something new. Leaning towards trying Pirelli Supercorsas but open to other suggestions too.

there arent too many regulars on this site with much track experience. You might have better luck asking over on Sportbikes dot ws.
but for what its worth. I have used the Pirelli Supercorsas and have had good luck with them. But ive only done about 5 track days in my life so cant say that I have alot of experience.
I do know that Pirelli has a huge presence at PIR and can offer outstanding support both at trackdays and OMRRA.
Ive heard good things about Michelins and it seems their trackside support is coming back to PIR.
I have heard outstanding reviews on the Dunlop Ntechs but they are really expensive and hard to come by in certain sizes.
best thing to do is pick one and stick with it and make every minor adjustment you can to tune the bike to the tires. Cause unless youre a top 10 racer, you probably arent gonna override any track tires.

I just want to run through the brands so I can figure out what works best for me. And thanks, I'll check them out and see

Mickey Thompson ET Radials.
They're sticky, don't wrinkle and distort too much, and they're DOT approved (required by class rules).

Do you have facts to support that statement?

Well, at the 4 track days I did at ORP this summer, everyone riding Pirelli had nasty tearing issues. Everyone riding Michelin and Bridgestone had no issues. I was riding Bridgestone, one of my buddies was riding Michelin, and my other buddy was riding Pirelli. He spent all day running back and forth between the tire rep and GP suspension trying to resolve the issue. Turns out, after walking from pit to pit talking to others, he found out everyone riding Pirelli was having the same issue; horrible tearing.
Different surfaces wear tires in different ways. I rode Bridgestones at ORP, and my tires looked like I had been riding street all day, smooth as a baby's butt. Yet when I ride Bridgestone at PIR they get all balled up and greasy on the edges. Of course, I haven't seen a tire that doesn't do that at PIR.

Interesting... That's good to know

I am loving the Dunlop N techs, they last forever...........for a track day tire, but they are expensive, my next tire is the new BT 02's, everyone is liking them, and Troy has been a great help to me this year (the Bridgeston Rep). I have heard good reports about the Michelin's, and Rick is a great guy, but they don't hold up very long.

Here we go! This is a pic from PSSR's last ORP weekend. Pirelli Dragon Supercorsa.

I am curious as to what causes the feathering on a tire?

Too much heat

Those are caused by wheel spin, usually from incorrect suspension settings/tire pressure. That is why you don't get the feathering on the outer edge, cause there is little suspension action at the outer lean angle.

Like I said, the Pirelli reps said it was the suspension, but if you took your bike to the GP guys, they said it was the tires. I don't disagree that kind of tearing is a symptom of improper suspension setup, but in the case of Pirellis on the surface of ORP, that is not the case. Not a single Pirelli rider could get their bike dialed in to avoid tearing at ORP. (Well, maybe some people in C group )

Thank you guys! Master has some major feathering on the front tire. So, I guess it's a trip to GP for him!

Yea, I've been pretty happy with the OEM settings on the ZX but I think it is time I take it down and have GP dial it in for me. I have nearly 10,000 miles on it now so I'm pretty much broken in...
IMO, GP is just as bad as EDR... Leave the credit card at home and take the exact amount you need in cash. $1400 later the SV was rock'in some bitch'in springs, modified forks, and a new Penske race shock all dialed in for me... Not sure what happend exactly, all I remember was seeing a couple CNC machines, ton of race bikes and smiling and noding a lot... Hopefully this time it wont be so bad on my pocket book...
