I am curious as to what you all use for fitness, to make your riding better? What do you do for excersize and nutrition? I am curious for those that are crunched for time, as well as those that devote a huge amount of time to fitness.

Educate me. :ride:

hi jane!! i got a universal set in my garage for excercise,,yesterday i hiked up to the top of spencers butte,,usually like to walk at least every other day, and stretch out the back, knees etc. when i have a chance..also alot of pushups and sit ups when time allows...( if the lazyness does not get the best of me)...l.o.l.:squid::help2:

Hmm..well..I have a gym at the UO that is "free" and i like to use that...my fitness regime was supposed to start today, but might be postponed til tomrrow. I havent been able to regularly go for awhile, but I'm changing that now!

I do 12 ounce curls quite often. makes your forearm stronger for those long rides through the mountains plus adds a little padding against the tank. You must never do this workout before you ride though as it takes alot out of you and is unsafe.....

I sit up and get out of bed. Then I go to work and proceed to walk alot. I also sometimes lift an 80 pound floor jack in and out of a van.

then again other people just do yoga...

for 'fitness' i do mostly free weights... try to hit the upper and lower, while completely ignoring my core (doctors orders!). if i'm feeling frisky, i'll do some sprints on the treadmill, unless the weather is good enough to do it outside. but usually i avoid the cardio stuff at all costs!!

for 'diet' i just try to do the low calorie/fat thing... just watch portions and make sure to avoid un-necessary junk at all costs. but i definitely dont follow a strict plan... i just wing it.

I play basketball a couple times a week. Try to lift free weights, but every time I get a good rythm going my court schedule screws it up

I usually lift soft tacos from taco bell...from the table to the mouth, then to the table, then to the mouth...about 10 reps of that and theyre gone.

Like Andrew, I sit up in bed. Then proceed to the coffee. Work my glutes in the Recliner and my lifting with a muffin or bowl of ice cream...........................gad that's pitiful. :( :( :(

I have a nice bicycle and live on the bike paths here in Eugene. Iexpect to be riding a lot more this year then before.
Let's see, along the path is Euphoria Chocolate, The Keg..........sorry, I forget myself.

:impaired: :eek2: :shhh:

I do walk about 7 miles a night at work. At least my legs are solid under that oh so feminine extra layer of fat............:haha: :blah-blah: :blah-blah:

I have never been able to set up a good routine for myself in the past. So this Christmas I got myself a bicycle trainer. My plan is to condition myself enough to be able to ride to and from work when the weather gets better. Also I try to hit the free weights.

If we can get some ppl on here interested in some group bicycle rides once the weather is decent, that would be awesome! Doing some group rides could be a great way to learn the ins and outs of some of our favorite back roads. I know that we all get mad when we pass bikes on the back roads, but that is usually only when they are like “3 wide in a blind turn”(quote Ron). Or if more people would like to do in town rides, that is tight too. No point letting all of these good bicycle paths go to waste. Just some thoughts. Not trying to thread jack, I promises.:haha:

As for diet, the hardest part to my diet is convincing myself to eat. I am trying to get more fruits and vegetables into my diet. I would be willing to bet that those are two food groups that most people are skimping on.

Oh and every meal ends with...:vomit:

Just kidding!:smilewink:

I think bicycling is a great idea!!!! I have a fantastic mountain bike that I used to ride, now its so neglected I need to redo the tires, and chain, and lube everything up, or I wouldn't even be able to sneak up on a glass of water.

Well that IS true, but you also have to look at it from this perspective...what if you were one of those unlucky people on the Titanic when it sank...you wouldnt live long in that cold water, and you sure wouldnt float very well...Or what if you were stuck in a cabin under an avalanch. Your body doesnt have any reserves to live off of for very long. I suspect that if you missed even ONE meal, youd probably starve to death. you poor poor boy! :( I am going to suggest that you do the "SuperSize Me" Diet at McDonnalds for the next month. You may loose some horse power due to unsprung weight on the bike, but you'll thank me one day when all of Eugene is swallowed up by an avalanch and thousands of thin hippies parish in cabins!

Eat a lot and lie around all winter. Then when summer comes, I'm so busy I forget to eat, and the extra lbs go away on their own:yes: When I can afford it I do a liquid diet that consists of Hennessy and Coca-Cola. Gotta be less calories in that than a steak.

Lots of masterbation really works the wrists so you have built forearms. 10X a day should make for a good racer, 5X for a normal street rider.

Also doing it doggy style for hours makes sure you do not suffer back fatigue.

And of course, getting blown and holding it for a while will simulate holding your piss in for those nasty long road trips.

Any more questions?
