Sidecars are racing with OMRRA this weekend (thats tomorrow and sunday)

Unfortunately the guys are down a few people and need a couple brave souls to be passengers or "Monkeys" in order to race.

Anyone interested should come to OMRRA Saturday morning EARLY and find the sidecar group and sign up for trials.

You will need full track gear including one or two piece 360 degree zip leathers, full gauntlet gloves, back protector, full face helmet and full track boots

also the ability to fearlessly hang your ass out (literally) of the sidecar to be a counterbalancer!

If I wasnt going to be out of town this weekend I would totally be on this like flyte on a gay pr0n movie!

Damn :rad: That sounds awesome! I'm half way tempted to sign up for this... My fat ass would be quite the counter weight... Or anchor... Depends on how you look at it... The guy that gets stuck with me is guaranteed not to win

so I did a 3 lap ridealong with the sidecar guys yesterday and I regret not bringing a spare change of panties!

I signed up in the morning and talked briefly with the rep on what I needed to wear and when and where I needed to be. The whole time people were grinnin at me like they knew something I didnt... I would later find out what was behind those devilish grins...

At lunch time I suited up in full leathers, helmet, gloves and... sneakers???? apparently you need real flexible footwear in order to move around as the passenger and my running shoes (with laces duct taped and tied so tight they cut off circulation) were a better choice than my Oxtar TCS boots. The rider rep set me up with a side car and driver, which happened to be the team who won the morning's side car race. (oh boy this ought to be interesting)

I practiced for a few minutes as the driver's wife showed me how to transition my body for each turn around the track. Let me tell you, just going over the movements in full leathers in yesterday's weather wore me out! Sidecars are not friendly to people with long legs...

We went out for a 3 lap tour of the track and I did my best. The first lap was fun, a little fast but I was able to get the positions down okay, the next lap was like night and day!!!! we went mach stupid down the straight! Careening into T1 bike going sideways cause I didnt have my body over enough, sliding through turn 3 for the same reason. As we were coming out of 3 I realised my foot was caught in the bracket (exactly what they told me not to do!) and I couldnt get up and over to the right in time for the hairpin turn 4. I yanked and yanked and finally got it loose, just in time to get pinned against the frame as the driver was on the brakes. we got sideways a bit and took a wide exit and went careening into the back straight! At this point I was beside myself and rememberd I was supposed to give the driver a signal at the start finish to go faster, slower or stay the same, as we were doing ninja speeds down the back straight I stuck my hand out to give the thumbs down to slow down a bit and the wind caught my arm and flung it skyward, just in time for me to drag my ass through turn 7, then jump over for turns 8 & 9.

I got about halfway down the front straight before I rememberd to breathe and relax my arms, I again tried the signal to slow the FUCK down to no avail, the driver had a crazed look in his eye as he zero'ed in on the other car in front and I was dragged along in a good natured mini amateur Monkey race!

My right turns were doing okay. I was able to get my body over the rear wheel as we went faster than I had ever gone before. However, I waited too long to get into position for turn 3 again and again I was pinned against the driver as he hit the brakes and unable to get my weight where it needed to be. We went WAAAAY wide as he struggled to keep the 3rd wheel down and the bike on tarmac. I saw him glance to make sure I was still there and yet again, we took off as fast as we were before to retain the lead.

The rest of the last lap was a blur as I prayed for a safe return to the pits. My arms were burning from strongarming my own body against the G-forces, I was hyperventilating from all the hot air in my face and my eyes were burning from the gas vapors. Not to mention the cramp in my hips from having to be a contortionist...

we pulled in to his pit and as I stood up I about fell over from shaking so much. I was covered in sweat, could barely see and I limped as we pushed the bike back into the tent. I took off my helmet and then realised why everyone was smiling at me. I confirmed everyone's expectations when all I could do was shake my head and say "holy shit" I bowed down to the professional passengers and thanked them for allowing me to have that experience. I barely made it 3-laps, I cant imagine having to do that crap for 7 laps in a race!

All in all I had an absolute blast. We won the unspoken race despite my crappy pillion skills. I have a new-found belief in God and a healthy respect for the crazy sidecar racers! Just a plain old stand-up group of super nice people!!!

Anyone who hasnt tried it seriously has to! I really hope they are back here next year!

Boy I'm glad I didn't sign up for this one. I'm taller than you are so I could only imagine how I would have fit in the side car. Sounds like it was an experience you wont be forgetting any time soon though :rad:
