One of everyones biggest worries when they're out riding is the crash factor. We all know that it could happen and eventually it will. Maybe not to you but maybe to someone else on the ride. It's always been my fear that it would happen in an area with no cell service. If you're alone or there is only two of you and injuries then what? I never want to have to make that descision.

And if I have one of these I won't have to

As soon as I saw everythign it can do I was impressed. It's like onstar for riders. The yearly subscription fee is cheap if you think about it.

Thats pretty cool. Although, Eric and I have the Blackberry with the Google Latitude. I can always see where he is, and he can see where I am. If something ever happens, we know where to find each other, usually within 300 yards. And, it's free software for your phone.

Don't start with the stalking bullcrap, I dig it when he stalks me... :naughty:

...as long as you have cell service/data connection, which is the OP's point.

As an aside, I have Latitudes on my G1, and I think it sucks. MyTracks is much better.

It's run off of satellite. So, if there is no cell tower service, I can still use my Latitudes.

The locater function is run off of satellites yes, but your BB doesn't broadcast your position or show you the maps via the sat system, that's pulled to you via the Google network online.

In other words, if you don't have cell service, your Latitudes map will be blank with a little dot in it showing your position and those that are subscribed to your Latitudes stream won't see where you are, because you don't have a broadcast connection. They WILL see where you last were before your connection was lost. Loopt behaves this way as well.

(That is, of course, unless you spent an extra $2500 or so for a BB SatPhone)

I'm pretty sure I don't have the extra change laying around for that.

I tried. *sniffle*

Sorry for my missinformation.

I don't know... I have a preference for my Garmin Rihno... It tells me all of that and more. has a GMRS radio, sends and recieves locations of people plus I can turn it off, and does a lot more.

Red Leg, good piece of equipment. I have a Rino 130 and it has been very good to me both overseas and back home.

When someone asks "FUGAWE?" I will always know!!!

Wish I had that when I did my road trip a couple of years ago. That would have saved a few worries here and there. I like the spot. Would be priceless on a boat for sure
