So I don't know the whole story yet, but the guy who has been watching/riding my bike (Justin) was riding today, and he went off an offramp (not sure which one) and the next thing he knows he's in the emergency room... I guess the police said they think he hit a patch of gravel. No word on how my CBR is doing, or how badly screwed up it is... But please pray for Justin.... :crying: He's ok but badly bruised up as of right now...

UPDATE

Ok, he broke his back and right hand. So it's a bit more than bruised up.

Please send your friend and his family my condolences. It sounds like he went down hard. I hope he has a speedy and full recovery. Crashing sucks!

I swear I saw your bike the other day too, it came cruising across the street I was driving down but I couldn't get a good look at it. Sorry for your friend though Erica, hope for a speed recovery.

He'd been out riding it quite a bit so it's pretty possible you saw him on it... Not anymore I'm sure though.... :crying:

Oh shit.

What's his prognosis for recovery? Gonna be able to walk, etc?

MarinesBiatch
05-19-2009, 07:25 PM
Yeah, he's got full motor abilities. As MH put it, his backbone did what it was supposed to do! Don't know how long his recovery will take, but it sounds like his right hand is in worse shape than his back. I'm going to give him a call tomorrow to see how things are. I'll post an update then.

We'll forgive you this time Jon. Just because someone is injured we don't count them out. We have a rider who is well known on the forums who has .. shall we say "been there, done that" . The individual broke their back in a few places and continues to ride. If you were never told you might not guess they were hurt so severely.

My back is fine... It was his! Just the dude and the bike... I'm all the way here in Virginia not knowing if I want to know what my bike even looks like right now... And I hope it's a speedy recovery too!! :( I got a text message from him today telling me all he's done is slept since he's been home, and he's still super sore. (Well DUH, I know...) But he sounds like he's doing ok otherwise....

Whew...Thank goodness he's not a spinal.

MarinesBiatch

I guess he actually called Paul today and told him specifics all around... Injury wise, he fracutred his L7 vertebrae, fractured his face (his face shield is almost completely ground out), destroyed his right hand, and has some brain trauma (concussion)... I think that was at least the worst of his injuries. Bike wise, it's windshield is broken, the hand and foot controls are gone, but body wise it only really has a few scratches and a new dent in the tank. But we don't know if the frame is straight or not.... I guess basically a cager forced him off the road more or less, and he I guess crabwalked the bike when he hit a patch of gravel and then remembers waking up in the hospital after that.... This was up at Rocky Butte. The car was a navy blue CR-V, and the person just drove off.... :wtf: No idea how long Justin was laying there, but somebody came up and saw him lying their lifeless and called the ambulance. How fucked up is that!?!? I just don't get it. Fucking cagers.:yell::shifty: Thank GOD he is still alive....

No joke! :(

Well, here's the final story... I went and saw the bike today... After we dropped Justin back off to his place... All I did was bawl. :( It's BAD. There's a puncture hole in the transfer case, there are huge gashes everywhere, the back right fender has 3 huge cracks, the top parts of both fenders surrounding the tank are practically gone. The windshield is so screwed up, a broken piece actually is now WEDGED in between a piece of the windshield still in tact and the edging... there was a ton of gravel stuck in the air intake... Paint missing from both sides. Basically it landed on the right side, flipped over and skidded to a stop on the left. Oh yeah, and its totally out of alignment. No question about it.

It's safe to say the bike is totalled (again really). I had to say good bye to my CBR today. I'm really torn up about it. :sad:It's so hard knowing that I had seen it two weeks prior to the accident in perfect condition, and now she's just... Destroyed. I was too upset to take pictures. But I will when we go to take pics for the insurance guy.

I'm heartbroken. Seriously. :crying: But thank GOD Justin is alive and had no permanent injuries....

Don't worry, our initial reaction was to guffaw about it, but it really does suck.

That used to be my bike too... Still kind of attached.

Wow. um...wow. They say bad things come in threes so technically you are out of the forest now. Also, you dont need to bother taking photos any more - you dont even have to bother dealing with the bike any more. Hope insurance is not too much of a biatch to deal with considering the circumstance.

Good vibes to the injured rider - heal up quick!

MarinesBiatch

Insurance was easy, getting $ for it at least. Sadly, it's going to bills, not another bike for now. :( I might buy one when Paul deploys... But it'll be extremely weird to ride without him. So we'll see. That's all for now.

Yikes, I hope your buddy recovers quickly. I hate broken bones (have had seven) but hopefully his back heals up properly and his hand too. I have had three buddies recover from broken backs (with surgeries) and one went on to run in a couple of marathons.

Bummer and perhaps a blessing about your bike. I guess that is why we have insurance. I had some jack-ass try to steal my GSXR 750 years ago and all he did was jack up the ignition switch. I had a handy little "kill switch" that he wasn't aware of.

When you hubby deploys, you can use his CZTE money to get yourself a nice new bike.

He has healed fine. I think he finally got his finger brace off... Ghostly might know?? It's his cousin...

Yeah, I want a new bike, but we'll see. :) I'm a bit jaded right now. LOL :wave

Was it his middle finger by any chance, and was it :fly:

oh yeah I forgot to add - ask janehonda for her bike... I think she's willing to loan it out?

Yeah right! I don't touch anybody else's bikes. Period. I would be terrified of crashing, and then I would prolly do so cuz I'd be so worried. Plus, I haven't ridden in a year now. It's been too long.

MarinesBiatch
09-25-2009, 01:04 AM
Oh, and no, it wasn't his middle finger. It was his first finger on his right hand. He snapped the tendon in it. He had to have a brace on to try and get it to heal.

That's a pain in the butt too. I had to have a brace on my left index finger, and it never did heal. It's still droopy, and I have a witch hand.

So, with my middle finger being as fucked as it is along with my index, I can't flip people the bird with my left hand. It just causes me to laugh. :haha:
