I just spent the majority of my day reading this thread on the B.A.R.F. forum. It was AWESOME!!!

Doesnt it though!? Ive got my bike sitting here in front of me right now and thinking about all of the nifty little parts I could make molds for, and possibly even sell CF Parts. hummmm....:naughty:
Didnt that tank come out awesome? and I think it weighed just over 4 pounds!!!

You hit the nail on the head Mike:thumbup: The amount of work that goes into making the molds and slugges is only justified by making multiples of each part. Sounds hella fun though:clapping: Please keep me informed on any future endeavors in the CF area. :rad:

Mike, I am really starting to hate you for posting this!
I can't stop thinking about fabricating a CF tank :haha:, or some race bodywork out of fiberglass:yes:. This one really has me interested. I would love to have a fiberglass mold that I could use to make my own replacement bodywork.:rad:
Less worries on the track :crash:, means more room for improvement!:ride:

You could make yourself full CF body work for the Superhawk :rad:
That would be pimpin, Ben!

I hear that man:thumbup:
I would be down for some race body work in CF or even fiberglass. Just something cheaper to crash on. :crash:

I hear ya. I am really interested in this as well. Perhaps we can pull our monitary resources, and get the supplies needed to try our hands at it, and then have our own little clinic sometime? It sure would be nice to have molds for new body work. Id be less standoffish about riding my bike the way it was ment to be ridden if I knew that all I had to do was make another part if it went down, and that part wouldnt cost me an arm and a leg!

I tried doing some CF fabrication a few years back. It is WAYYYYyy more difficult than the books and video footage you may have seen. Do keep in mind that the people who write those books have ALL the proper equipment, materials (what the pros work with is a hell of a lot more expensive than what a layman is likely to work with) and most importantly, the experience. I really believe that there are certain things involved in CF fabrication that should be learned from another human being, and will be very difficult and costly to learn through experimentation.
And, let's not even get started on how difficult it is to make a hollow item such as a motorcycle tank out of of CF, and make it good enough to hold fuel safely.

+1 on the heavy learning curve. And the fact is that unless you can crank out copies and sell them, there is no financial incentive to even try to make the molds. :idunno:I fabricate about half the stuff on my bike, but even I have to have limits. :2cents:

so? anybody here try this? I think I might try and make some basic parts for my son odyessy to dress it up. I didnt read the whole thing and need to but did anyone catch the cost of a small project like that?

It is not cost effetive to make any part that you can buy. The amount of time and materials involved in just making a mold is more than most ppl want to spend on the whole project. But the up side is that once you are done with the mold you can pump out copies of the part with relative ease. As for a $ amount I am really not sure. :idunno:

I want to make a one off kit for my sons odyessy I customized for him.
So it would be only one time I make them but I cant buy them cause no one else makes them.

its a good post...but without the toys he has at his disposal, there's just no feasible reason to go to that extreme
