Hope your sitting down. I just got my insurance rate paperwork for the motorcycle.......

Lets see.... $564 a year equals..... 47 DOLLARS A MONTH!!!!!!! I have to calculate it 3 times to really believe it. I know that normally the insurance companies look at sportbikes as a huge liability but I am paying the price of having a cruiser.
The coverage is the same and I can even suspend it in the winter months. Now granted it is included with my house and automobile insurance, but I know that anyone would be hard pressed to find a better rate.

Come to think of it, at the rate Im at, I dont even need to suspend it..

Is that for the 1098?? Thats good but about on par with what Im used to paying for sportbikes. For me anything under $50 a month is all good..

Then I guess I am used to being ripped off, cause I was paying 1200+ a year for full coverage.

I think the kicker is that the bike is 1 year old and I owe a bank for it still...

If I manage to find a 1098, (probably next to impossible), the rate will be more. I am almost positive..... but then it comes back to the ability to suspend it for the winter months...

Over 30, but thinking about it, it shouldnt have anything to do with credit rating. I have great credit but a lot thats revolving. I am wondering if that is a factor in this silly insurance game.....?

Every friggin insurance company is different with different rules and different factors. This one could care less if I was married whereas the other one considered marriage a rate change. One wants to know if you have MSF certification and the other doesnt care..... One wants to know how long you have been riding and the other doesnt ask....

Its really "scammish" to me.... :(

State Farm is great. I have life, house, motorcycle, and vehicle through them. The more you have to bigger the discount. They go by cc's only not sportbike vs cruiser. Give them a call..

I had them when I had my 02 vette and even though I had already dogged it for 50,000 miles, they still tore me a new a-hole.....

In the first post I mentioned that I have house, vehicle and bike under on company now.

I just cant believe.....except for a very, and I mean very few exceptions, that anyone can get a lower rate for a new friggin crotch rocket over 100 HP or 600 cc's+ ..... OR ANYTHING WITH AN "R" IN THE NAME for that matter...

I just thought of this too... What happens if you got a 1400 cc 2 cylinder chopper thingy? God that must hurt the pocketbook...

State Farm was just phenomenal to me after I totalled my bike last year. They completely cancelled our bike and car ins but gave us the benefit of letting the policy run its term (6 mos). Of course they wanted to keep my home ins.
I'm spewing sarcasm in case you cant tell :vomit:
My rate went from $27 a month full coverage on my R6 to $200 and almost $300 on the R1 because another company had previously cancelled me!
Ok, hurt me by cancelling me but then kick me down the stairs by making it almost impossible to find anything I can afford. Made me want to sell the bike!
Now I end up with some off the wall checkbook raper who wont let me suspend for the winter.
So...I just said FU and paid off both bikes and cancelled it for the winter.
OK i'm done now.

Unless you are under 25 and/or have a ticket or two, your rate could be better. I am currently with Farmers and pay $280/yr full coverage 500 comp/500 collission and a $1000 deductible on my 2002 FZ1. I'm 36 and have a clean record. This month I will be switching to Country. My bike rate will go up to $350/yr, but my 4Runner will be $250/yr less than Farmers and my wife's car will be $100/yr less also. Also, Country doesn't care what type of bike it is. They go by CCs.

....not trying to single you out, but its the deductible that giving you a lower rate. I am sure its that too thats giving all these other people this incredibly awesome insurance rate. Now maybe I am not such a smart cookie, but I do know that with any sportbike, (and they go by VIN number), will be jacked up because of the statistics. I also know that I am not paying for half the bike when something happens such as an accident, stolen, a lightning bolt hits it, whatever....
I think that I am at the point that I wont say anything about a good deal I am getting, because I know I am getting a great deal for full coverage, and I also know that here is always someone out there (not you directly) that has to "one up" everyone else, and is lying through there teeth or not telling the whole story.

Peace, out!

To respond to your first sentence- Not really. The $1k deductible is fairly standard and isn't the largest contributing factor to the low rate. Not trying to "one up" and I'm telling the truth, the whole truth, and noth.....I was just trying to be helpful and provide comparison information to the original poster.

Its not you man. Just forget I said anything. I wasnt saying it to you directly. By the way, welcome to the Forum.
I do know that a huge deductible IS a contributing factor and that is exactly what these others got. I got a 500 dollar deductible and that seems to be pretty "norm" around here....
These people say they got great coverage until they spoon out $1000 of the $2000 repair costs and the insurance laughs as they raise the rate. You have an older bike by insurance standards, and so your rate is low. If you go buy a brand new R whatever, I garantee that your rate will probably be close to $100 a month.... or more....... like most everyone else.
There are too many factors, and guess what? I have lost interest, because I know better. I do my homework. I wouldnt insure with Farmers because their rates are friggin outragous, and it doesnt matter if I got 100 gold stars and can walk on water. Its all about the vehicles worth and how many get plowed into trees every year. My age might make a slight difference, but if I can go from 117 a month to 22.37 a month then something is good, and I also know that its not everyone that is so lucky.

And I will say this again! I am not directing this at you, unless you feel like being offended. I was just using your example to make a point.

I dont think anyone is BSing you I have statefarm $100 comp. $250 collision and I pay $27 a month 04 R1. I think the reason some of these rates are lower is not to have the personal injury on the account, that and where you live. I also remember 20 years ago state farm decided at least in Bandon Or. that since so many people were dropping their insurance during the winter, that they reduced the price for the year to get you to keep it going. Last time I had a smaller bike, 600cc, it was about $16 or something like that. State Farm requires you to insure a car with them to have bike insurance.

I was doing some insurance hunting yesterday...looking for the "Low Rate".. I found it hard to find places that would do online motorcycle quotes, and I think the lowest rate I could come up with was about $500.00 per year on my 06 R1. And I dont have any tickets, no wrecks, been riding for about 20 years, took an msf course (Or something like it) back in 1988, even picked the higher $1000.00 ductable...That was with Geico though. and Ive heard that they are pretty rediculous.

See that is the thing. An online quote is usually a ballpark figure. The real part is when the bill comes in the mail with all the little bull**it fees attached to it. When I see a piece of paper with the actual rate or see what gets yanked out of my bank account(because its cheaper to do it that way... ), then I know what I am getting.

Its a jerkoff business and the only thing I am concerned with is winning. I gotta pay but I will try my damndest to keep it to the bare minimum.

That is just bizzare. I don't know how the rest of your record is (tickets, etc...) but my rates with State Farm didn't even change when I had the accident. I am pretty paranoid about getting a ticket now though (I'm clean of tickets at the moment:haha: ) I think they might boot me if I picked up a ticket after that.

A few things I have learned about insurance. These days ... it's really for catastrophic incidences only. They will drop you in a flash if you use it for "small" stuff, or use it frequently. Also, as far as house insurance goes... your credit rating has a HUGE impact on your rate (which I think is really stupid) I am guessing that credit scores have an impact on other rates as well, though I'm not sure as much as a homeowners policy does.

Side-note...After paying for insurance for 20 years, I put a small dent in my old truck when I backed it into something...I had NEVER made a single claim in my life. After paying them THOUSANDS of $$$ over the years... Allstate was going to raise my rate enough to cover the price of the claim over a few years time anyways...why bother even turning it in????!!!! It IS really frustrating :bash:

Good luck with all of it man.
