Hi all! I'm likin' the mayhem so far, and thanks for the welcomes!
No, Flyte Risk, I do not frighten easily; I got a laugh out of your e-mail, in fact! I am virtually impossible to offend, as you will no doubt find out in the future.

A bit of background: I have no bike, sadly,:crying:which undoubtedly makes me a serious minority around here. I want one so badly I am considering selling a disposable relative (trust me - he won't be missed) into slavery if that's what it takes to get one!

The primary obstacle? A husband, and I am sure I do not even need to discuss what his objections are. The goal is to amass enough cash to purchase one anyway. Naturally, I have every intention of taking every available safety and maintenance class available.

Jane talked me into joining here even though I am either on foot or 4-wheelin' it; she said I could learn a lot and maybe even get some tips on overcoming the resistance of the male unit.

So. . .off to browse the board some, and set up a profile. Thanks to Jane for inviting me here and thanks to Flyte Risk for setting up my account.

ST, will you keep us posted on which disposable relative gets the ax? :haha:

I'm thinking that overcoming the resistance of the male unit needs to be overcame fast.

Oh, wait... You didn't mean THAT unit, did you?

Thats an easy one. Sell the hubby, buy the bike and never look back. My sweetie knows she'd be history before my bike would be. Truth be told I took my bike on vacation this year and left her at home.

And please, for the love of all that is holy, don't dare me to offend you. Kris knows how bad I can be. Just sit back, relax and wait for me to be in a foul mood. Then enjoy the show. I really believe that it can't be offending if it's entertaining.

I don't think I could get enough for the hubby to buy a decent bike. Maybe a face shield. He does yard work, so that might be worth something to someone!

Ho him out on craigslist. I'm sure that hot-lanta has enough of an underground gay population that wants a wiener slangin' yard worker you could afford the monthly payments.

And the Goddess of the Oven lets you get away with this stuff? You must be God then:bow:

LOL, Kartik, we have an understanding, we have "our couples" time together we have "kid time" together and we have "us" time, meaning as in single person time alone, not smothering our SO, where we allow each other our own time to things by oursleves with our own friends. He rides, I do my naughty ladies parties.....we have seperate hobbies and interests. It's what makes us UNIQUE! :rad: I never tell he can't go hang out with his buds, go ride all day, go on vacation by himself, go to FNG's, and he doesn't tell me I can't party with my ladies, go do my local, regional or national team training...in Las Vegas! Simple.

Welcome ST! :wave Nope, I don't have a bike either....

As far as obstacles, the hubby, I don't have a lot advice, but have open discussions and address his concerns. Is it safety issue he's worried about, get the best saftey gear you can get. Is it the fact your entering a primarily male-domninated hobby? Screw that , there are tons of great women riding all kinds of bikes...you have awesome mentors here.....Miss Honda...... who has come a VERY long road to recovery, I'd almost consider her Saint Honda now..... and lived to tell about it!:rad:

Ninja Kitty, Sassy Duck, Marine's Biatch, Zoom, Foxy Lady, Fade, I know there's more here, just can't remember thier screen names.....lots of women here who ride to give advise. Single, married, or attached with SO's. If it's mechanical, you have lots of guys/women here who can wrench, or can guide you into the right direction.... this is a great group of folks here, and I don't even ride. Hope to meet you in person soon ST!

PS-Just curious on your screen name, any clue as to what the meaning behind it is?

Again, welcome welcome! Ms. Flyte Risque, aka: Stephanie

The fact that it's primarily a male-dominated hobby doesn't bother him. After 6 years married, he's used to the fact that I like hangin' with the guys. I worked in construction for several years, so I do everything but scratch 'n' grab myself and spit.
It's the old "you'll get killed" issue. And I have pointed out that I have every intention of going the full gear route, taking safety courses, etc. Doesn't work.
But I started another thread asking for advice, and there've been some helpful responses. Part of the problem is that I don't know enough to argue effectively, so I need to start there.
I could go ahead and do it (I am rather strong-willed in some ways) but prefer to not make waves if it's unnecessary.

Oh, and the screen name is from a Rush song called "Chemistry". I "met" Kris/Jane on the Rush Forum. :)

Yeah, it has merit. . .but I am afraid he would like it TOO much and then poof - I am STILL without a bike!

Hey ST, did you get the bike?

Nope, no bike yet. I tell people now that I ride an Airbike 250.
I have my MSF course on the calendar for January, though, and plan to buy some gear after Christmas. And I have done some looking, and decided on a Ninja 250, as all reports (especially from Jane) are that it is an EXCELLENT beginner bike and will keep me happy for a long time, even after my skills improve. It's also quite affordable - very important.
My husband is starting to show signs of being a little more yielding. Unfortunately, I don't have anyone else in my corner. Even my dad, who had a bike for YEARS when I was a kid, and used to give me & my sister rides, said, "Oh no, it's too dangerous in this town." Sigh.

Stick to the plan and the due by dates. If you waver on one they will expect you to waver on them all.
