Welcome to the site, LilNinja! You have my exact bike! :rad:
I am so very much in love with my little bike, and am forever greatful for my sweet loving boyfriend to have bought it for me.
You can do a Google search for Team Oregon classes. There is also MSF you can search for too.
Nothing beats time in the saddle tho, for experience. I know, its hard to do when its raining. So, what you CAN do is get to know your bike, from the inside. Study it's guts. Learn how to change oil. Check tire pressure, chain tension... etc. Those are the basics you will need to learn to stay safe. Read up.
We're here to help! Welcome!

I had a feeling. Duane doesn't come around here anymore for the most part. It seems our female members grew tired of his constant advances towards them so they handled him among other reasons.
Anyway, welcome to the site, you'll find our male members seem to not mind constant advances.

Some men are not pigs.
It's the ones that will take advantage while the other partner is away. Thats pretty low. To even consider doing that while their partner is gone, and to say they DIDN'T do it. Come on. I don't buy it. I dated someone like that last year, and I am SO glad he is out of my life now.
No one needs that kind of worry.

09-21-2008, 12:46 PM
Lol Then we shall keep it at that hun, thanks for the welcome and I wont be a stranger if you wont. I kinda excited about being here, learning how others ride and getting there input on riders such as myslef... being new I have no stories. :( YET!!!

Have you spent any time on your bike at all? Do you have your permit?
LilNinja_n_ME
09-21-2008, 01:14 PM
I have very few hours total on my bike, 3 tops. Sad but true, I don't have anyplace to ride where I live So I have to go to an open lot, which I have been to Trojan to practice, and no I don't have my permit, I have nothing yet, Still waiting to take a class or something like that, but don't know where.
Jane Honda
09-21-2008, 01:20 PM
All you need to do is go to the DMV, and get a Motorcycle instruction book for now. Study it, take your permit test, that way you are at least legal to go out on the streets.
Practice in the parking lots. Cones, stopping, starting, turning. I did that quite a bit when I got my bike.
I grew up on dirt bikes, quads, and trials bikes, but an accident in 06 all but took every stitch of confidence I had and replaced it with paralyzing fear.
I have over come that thru the patience of my sweet Master and friends here. I can now rail my little 250. I am sure, in time, you will be able to do the same.
LilNinja_n_ME
09-21-2008, 01:24 PM
I can get a permit without taking anything else?? HEY HEY... I didn't know that!!! Look likie ill be busy come Monday... whooops guess that tomorrow!! WAAHHHOOOOO!!

Yeah, thats the first step in getting mobile.
Taking the test is easy. The only reason I didn't get 100% and got one wrong is because my nerves go haywire when I take tests. :haha:
Have the boyfriend make up little obstacle courses for you once you get the hang of starting and stopping your bike. Have them range from uber easy, till you get the hang of them, to more difficult. Thats a good way to get started.
If you start to feel overwhelmed, go back to the stuff thats easy for you, or just hang it up for the day. Once you come back to the obstacle that was more difficult, it should be easier. Slow steps, that way you don't injure yourself or your new bike.
Oh, and did I mention.... wear GEAR! Leather up, baby! :rad:

+1
Also, it's also a good idea to learn how to pick your bike off the ground. Hopefully you're never have to. I dropped my first bike dozens of times in my first year.
edit: Come to think of it now, I actually dropped it both times I was at the DMV to get endorsed... :shhh: Taking the BRC/MSF course was the best investment into riding I have ever done!

Foxy... and whoever else is reading this.... I have dropped my bike, the 1st freakin hour I got on it, my foot slipped out from me because I was in gravel for the first time, lol it scared the !@#$ out of me, I got a few pebbles stuck in my hand and got a tiny scratch on the bike, I didnt pick it up my bf did, then he said "I was scaring him" time to stop!!! LOL I got back on for a few laps then put him away for the day.

Well,I don't believe any one of us have met him. I remember a conversation about possible Zom & him talking.I was watching at the time. Also chatted in on it. In the end, it was Zoom & a few of us who met up. We were just harassing him back. Nothing serious & no hit on him intended.
Either way, thats the past. I personally found it amusing. I'm secure in my relationship with my man. He saw what was going on here as well. Never commented on site about it. Just found the whole thing funny.
Thats whats bad about internet like Flyte told me way back when. Gotta meet the people first..Most are different in person except Flyte :smilewink: . I'll leave that one alone for now.
So welcome to osb. Good choice on the 250 Ninja. I had a Ex 500 and upgrade to the ZX9. Took the Team Oregon course in May But had my permit to be legal to practice. The course is actually easy. Took it over on Swam Island. Though I believe they won't be there anymore. They said they lost their lease..It was a good location...The more you practice & go out ofr short rides. The more confident you will be..
Good luck

Ya, every time I dropped my bike I would give up for that day. It sucked trying to learn to ride, being in leathers, then dropping your baby and having the adrenaline rush through you. Every time it happened I'd all of a sudden feel claustrophobic and have to rip off all my gear to calm down.
I wasn't comfortable and eager to ride until I had my first Winter after a bought my bike. By then I was so sick of Winter I got back out as soon as the streets were clean.

Kewl....on the dropping of bike. I had only so far "almost " moments. Even then twice was it. I take my time even in a hurry. Probably some might not like it. But tough. Its my baby and ass that will hurt if I rush. Now that I'm on the ZX9 I'm even more so.
We went out on a crazy ride a few weeks back & was the last bike in line. Didnt really care about that. It was the terrain that just told me not to go over my ability. So what can you do but stay within the speed limit..lmao

At least your noggin is protected.
I almost lost my finger, had road rash on my ass, chin, knees, hands, shoulder... It was quite painful. (more so than the broken back at the time) I have a pair of Draggin Jeans I need to sell, they are kevlar reinforced.

You will do fine..Its good to have a sense of fear. But use it and turn it into respect for the bike and learn a little more about your bike and inertia. Its amazing what you can actually do and what it is capable of doing.

I've seen a Goldwing go end over end over a car once . Stupid bitch driving a car was drunk and turned right in front of the Leadwing where the bike T-Boned the car and the bike and both riders went flying end over end :crash: .
