OHHH!!!!
I bought a brand new 1985 Interceptor 500 off the showroom floor at Portland Honda back in the day. I spent many a day beforehand drooling over that bike too. This bike was indeed something else when it came out. It was a whopping $2750.00 brand new.
My VF500R was the start of 23 years now of incredible motorcycling memories. :ride:
Post up some pics of your ride and keep us posted on the progress. I also would love to find an 85' VF500R and restore it back to showroom condition.
I just found and purchased a 91' Toyota MR2 that I am bringing back to stock, showroom condition again. There's just something about vehicles with a history to them.
Old School!!!!!!

I got some pic and I hope to be able to post them. It is a 1986 with no sign of being down, but of course 22 years of weathering and dings. I had one of these before and ran it on PIR and Coos Bay as well as ride it to Laguna Seca and get to do the lap around the track with about 5,000 other riders. OK now to try to load the pics.

One of my friends also bought one brand new when they first came out. Probably one of the first in Portland, I think he also got it at Portland Honda. I used to love to borrow it and ride around because as you pointed out there was no other production/consumer bike out at that time that had the racer caged frame and fairings. People would just look and drool all over it. Ahhhh the memories :ride:.
