CaptainKidd found that Simple Green Max for automotive works really good. That's what I use on mine. Its cheaper than most cleaners out there and does a good job. It not petroleum based so you don't have to worry about it getting on your tires too... Spray on let soak for a bit then hose or wipe off...

And I would highly recommend using Plexus Plexiglass Cleaner for all your plastic and painted goodies. It works awesome too

Gasoline or strong solvents will eat paint. kerosesn is a mild solvent that wont do any harm. it cuts right throuth the chain lube fling.
obviously i wouldnt go sloshing it all over your bike, but wet a towel with it, wipe the area clean and then wipe with a dry towel. The owner's manual also recommends kerosene to clean your chain as it wont eat the rubber o-rings.
NOTE: I use kerosene strictly for cleaning wheels and chain and no where else on the bike.
Plexus works well for plastic, as does zip wax car wash soap

Slosh, slosh, slosh, KaWHOOOM! SHIIIIIIT!!!! :freakout
Kerosene does work well though. I used it a lot when I was into the dirtbike thing. It will clean up just about anything... Unfortunately, it will leave the nasty grim spots in your driveway if you're not careful. Don't spill...

Something that works for me, and probably already known, when one is done cleaning wheels, spray a cloth with WD40 and rub generously all over the wheels, its helps clean up next time round.
