He revs it to 3K and anywhere above while riding (any gear) and it gives out a grinding noise...any thoughts?

My first thought would be having to do with the timing chain or some of it's components. How many miles on the bike?

Cam chain tensioner could be toast

cam chain tensioner, valves need adjustment, main bearing failure, internal knock. lots of things could be at play.

need to pinpoint what area the noise is coming from. a mechanics stethoscope would be handy.

Yea, same thing with mine. This happens when accelerating from a stop.
First I hear a "Screeech" and then after 10-20 seconds, I smell burning rubber!!!:haha:

Must be these new fangled machines.....
