I rode to work today and was just dreading putting on my gear for the ride home.. then it hit me, the best idea ever.. I ended up putting my gear in the freezer at work for about a half an hr and it was nice and cold for the ride home!! It didn't last a long time but it sure beat putting on warm gear on a hot day I tell ya.. anyways, just thought I would share. Stay safe

I think people would wonder what the hell I was doing if I put my gear in the freezer...

Thats a good idea  I've actually considered getting one of these vests. I cant make up my mind if I would want to get a Gel Pack type vest or the Phase Changing type...

Ah.... the good idea. I like good ideas, as long as they are not work related. We call those who have a "good idea" at work the GIF aka the "good idea ferry." Those "good ideas" are no good. Ok, I am done rambling....

We usually call are GIF's Engineers... Still; No good ideas come from them either...
I wonder if there would be some kind of long term negative impact from putting your leathers in a freezer? It sounds "COOL" but I wonder what it would do to your leathers over time
The vests though; Gel is cold... Damn cold... 32 degrees cold until the packs warm up. This usually leaves some isolated frostbite where as everywhere else is still roasting... The Phase Changing though stays at a constant and comfortable 54 degrees for four or five hours. But the packs are not cheap compared to Gel...

Master E, my buddy uses a small "cold pack" in the upper back of his leathers where the helmet guard/brace/neck pad is and gets a couple hours of being a little bit cooler that way.
I may have to look into the vests, as it has been hotter than heck in traffic lately and I could probably use it overseas on my next deployment. We had a group sent us some "neck gaitors" that you could freeze and they worked great on patrol for about 2 hours.
