Just curious whats the longest shift you have ever had to work... I once had to work a 21 hour shift. To top that off it was during the summer, it ended up being 98 degrees that day. Not exactly what I wanted to be out in wearing 30lbs of extra gear. To top it all off there was a SWAT callout right at the end of shift that kept me over even longer... Standing in that heat after working 17 hours about killed me. So whats your nightmare work story

Not a long shift but the nastiest job.

I worked in a grease and oil manufacturing company in Oklahoma for over 9 years.

Picture and smell this: Huge sheet metal building packed full of 1000gal kettles at 250 degrees F, 4" steel steam and flow lines on every level, 4" rubber hoses, concrete, mineral spirits by the bucket open, vats of grease-200 to 800 gal and lots of different mills and tools to process and fill grease.
Now it's either 110 F outside with a heat index of 125 F or its 12 F with a wind chill of -20.
My theme song was, truly "Slip sliding away". Because the floors were so bad you could slide from station to station.
One thing I can tell you. I was the most buff of my life! I'd break over and roll those filled 55 gal. drums and the boys didn't fool with me!
Gawd....I can still smell it! :impaired:

I had a job that made you feel like this just after 8 hrs lol.

I worked for a Bi-polar lunitic. Biggest dick I ever met. Happy to see you in the morning, letting you know your work is Sh*t and he doesn't know why he keeps you by ten, appology for lunch, pep talk by two and more confirmation that you are a steaming pile before you go home. Every f'ing day. I've never been so bummed in my life, ever. I thought it was me until I found out he did that to everyone. I spent almost a year feeling like I was going to be fired at any moment. After I turned my notice in he told me "we're sure going to miss me around here. It's been really great working with you." I litterally laughed at that which got him steaming. Man what a tool.

Geee did you work in Eugene between 1996 and 2001?

Had the same boss. After a absolute ass chewing from **** I asked "Why do you keep me here?" Answer-"You're such a good worker"!!? GAWD!

Dear God...... there is another???? No, there can't be.
Here's a good example of how out of hand this guy was. When I started he had a partner/office manager (wife), personal assistant, book keeper, designer/estimator (me), 2 project managers, 4 carpenters, and 3 laborers. When I left he had his wife, (but not much longer I think) the book keeper and a laborer. Everyone else told him to f himself. That's all within a year.

If it was anyone else talking to me that way I would have no choice but to beat their ass. It would be a matter of honor. The fact that I needed to feed my family during a recession kept my fist from his nose.

I suspect there are more then we want to know about.

I walked out on mine (never, ever done that before) the day he told me to do the work temporary help was supposed to do. I had been a Super., Lead and trainer for 4 years.
Employment office backed me up! He was fired a few months later.

I worked a lot of 14 hour days this summer, but it wasn't bad at all. It was spread out over two jobs, with an hour break for lunch between them.

I was deployed with the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force.

So while I wasn't doing 'work' around the clock, I was definately at work the whole time.....

Those dates are the time I spent 'In Enemy Territory'

Youre going to make me start telling about my commercial fishing year arent you? PLEEEAAAASE dont! I am still going to therapy because of that one! :(
But to give you SOME idea...
Try 3 weeks streight at a time without seeing land...Freezing your ass off, and doing HARD BACK BREAKING LABOR. The only time you slept was when you passed out on live piles of crab... and that was only for about 15 minutes at a stretch untill you reached the next string of crab pots, all at the same time some crazy italian boat captain is screaming obsinities at everyone constantly...Then you come in...unload the boat, pick up groceries, and fuel, and head back out to sea again...try that for 3 months streight...then its time to switch gear for bottom fishing...and then you do shrimp, and then it starts all over again...yea, it sucked. But you make DAMN GOOD $$. Unfortunately all that money is eaten up by a good therapist.
