My heart and prayers goes out to the family and friends.
A motorcyclist was killed in a Sunday afternoon crash on I-5 in South Portland. The crash backed up traffic into the early evening.
The accident happened about 4:25 p.m., near Terwilliger Boulevard. By 4:35, the two right-hand southbound lanes were closed. A few minutes later, all southbound lanes were shut down. So were many on-ramps onto southbound I-5 ranging back through downtown Portland. Meanwhile, paramedics tried but failed to save the live of the female motorcyclist. Investigators she was one of two people riding separate bikes, near each other. Her companion, the other motorcyclist, was apparently unhurt.
One of the southbound lanes were re-opened shortly before 6 p.m. But cars and trucks were crawling through, and the backup lingered into the evening as firefighters, state police and highway crews worked to investigate and to clear the crash scene.
