Haga sets pace in Losail

Yamaha won a small victory over Ducati as the factory teams began a two-day test at Losail ahead of the Qatar World Superbike round, as the Japanese manufacturer's Noriyuki Haga topped the timesheet.

Noriyuki Haga set the pace on his Yamaha, clocking 1:59.2 - although his time was two tenths slower than RG Ducati man Lorenzo Lanzi's best on Monday. Haga's team-mate Troy Corser was second just a tenth back
Troy Bayliss may not have edged below the two-minute mark on his Xerox Ducati, but the Australian veteran showed signs he is returning to full fitness after breaking his collarbone in testing last month.
Fellow Ducati Michel Fabrizio struggled to a best time of 2:00.7 while the PSG-1 Kawasaki team - unlike the other privateers - stayed on for a third day of tests.
Makoto Tamada outpaced Regis Laconi by over a second as the team saw their track time curtailed when an engine was damaged en route to the track.
Kawasaki conducted the test with 'standard' Pirelli tyres and will hope for further improvement next weekend at Losail when they compete on 'race' rubber.
Laconi said: "We did as much work as we could at these tests, but we could not complete all the laps we wanted to over the three days. The work we did was in a good direction and we know the bike has a lot more to give.
"So we still have things to do when we get back to Qatar for the race, particularly with the new electronics system. We will be ready to go when race day arrives, that is for sure."
