View Full Version : My latest mods/upgrades

I picked my bike up today after having the lastest upgrades/mods completed.
AJ, my master technician at Moto Corsa, did his usual stellar job. He installed the DP cams, 1098 radial pump master cylinders, the tail-chop project, and had the clutch side-case cut to open it up.

I haven't had a chance to ride it yet, but it sounds amazing. He assured me that it runs well the way that it is, but it's time for a PCIII and a custom map (we tentatively scheduled that for sometime in the next couple of weeks).
Pictures of the tail-chop will have to wait until I have better lighting conditions. He used the stock license plate light to illuminate the plate that is mounted in front of the battery.

I also, obviously, have some serious cleaning and polishing to do before showing the bike in the "Custom Sportbike" class at IMS this weekend.
He used 1098 brackets to mount the reservoirs.

I was standing at the service writing desk when AJ fired it up back in the shop area. The ground was literally shaking all the way out in the service writing area. One of the other employees told me that everyone in the store stopped what they were doing and keyed in on the sound that the motor was making when AJ fired it up and was revving it up after putting it back together and tweaking adjustments on it. I can hardly wait to ride it.

I need to figure out how to post a sound clip. Anyone tips from those familiar with the software used with JVC digital video cameras would be most appreciated.

Looking good. The clutch is turning out to be quite the centerpiece.

Now I do have to ask. Do you actually ride that bike more then from home to show to home to MotoCorsa for valve adjustments to home?

NOTE: The above was meant as a funny. Veteran members here know how much I love to pick on italian machines in favor of my cookie cutter, everbody has one, jap reliability.

I bought it on May 15, 2006. At present, it has just under 18,000 miles on it. That's not bad considering that it's spent between 5 and 7 months having engine/suspension/brake mods/upgrades performed on it. Also, it would have more miles on it, but I picked up a 2001 Aprilia with 12,000 miles on it last June. The Aprilia now has just under 18,000 miles on it, as well.

One night after having the Duc tuned up I decided to ride to California and back. I left Mac at about 7:00pm, rode to Redding and was home by 11:00am the next day. Total distance was 870 miles. I wanted to make it an even 1000 miles, but it was a sunny Sunday, I was getting tired, and traffic was getting heavy. Next spring, I will do an Iron Butt ride on the Duc. Anyone want to come along? Mr. Risk, perhaps? :)

Here are a few pictures that I took today in better light than was available last night. There is also a picture of a Cox Racing Group Oil Cooler Guard that I forgot to mention that I added.

I added the nod to Moto Corsa on the fairing because I'm repeatedly amazed by the work that they do and the bike wouldn't be what it is without their efforts.

i'm up for an iron butt ride next year. Almost made it in 06 but i got heat stroke after 700 miles my own fault some times i get to excited and forget to drink water and rest in the shade. By the way that duc is beautiful.
I left ventura ca at 5:00am and was trying to make it back to florence or in the same day. Total miles would have been 987. I was close and an 06 R1 is'nt the most comfortable bike:haha:

I love it when sportbike riders use them to cover a long distance. I find my bike quite comfortable, but I'm pretty tall (6'5") so the reach to the bars is similar to what it is like for an average height guy's reach to sport-touring bars.

It sounds like some pretty intense heat messed up your ride. Intense cold slowed me down or I would have covered more miles that night. Live and learn. I'd only packed gear that would keep me comfortable in temperatures in the mid-50s and I ran into temps in the low-40s to high-30s. Ooops.

I figured I'd be smart - ride at night and avoid the traffic. I didn't prepare for how cold it would be down around Ashland and Shasta. Next time, I'm going to do most of my riding during the day.

I'm up for doing the ride, probably late spring of '08. It might be fun to have folks start posting up possible routes and then having those that are interested in doing the ride pick one and get it planned out.

I really need to log on and peruse more, so I can defend myself!! :twofinger:

Mike's right, most of the miles I have on the 916 is from home to Motocorsa and Motocorsa to home. :ride: But I sure make it good!!!:haha:

Wow Dale, I thought I was putting up the mechanic's kids to college from what I spent at Motocorsa, but I think you're putting them to grad school and buying their first house!!!:haha: :haha: :haha:

You're right about that, and I think they want to attend an Ivy League school and live in Malibu. Fortunately for my wallet's sake, I'm almost done with all of the mods that I wanted to make. About the only things left to do are the intake, PCIII with custom maps for each cylinder, and a slipper clutch, then I'M DONE... unless I find a good deal on a MH900e swingarm, and maybe some carbon fiber wheels, and then there's the magnesium, oh, I give up. My name is Dale and I'm an addict...

Hi Dale!!!

I had Moto Corsa install a TPO Beast-R intake (billet velocity stacks with huge K&N pod filters) and a PCIII. Then Eric (EDR's Eric, of course) worked his dyno tuning magic. Now my little air-cooled 2-valve motor is making 97.24 rwhp and 75.69 ft/lbs of torque. YEE-HAW!!! Those number are up from the pre-tune numbers of 91.33 and 71.27, so Eric netted me about a 6% torque increase and a 7% horsepower increase. Not bad. Not bad at all.
