I headed east on 212 to get on 205 like I do every day after work. I peeked over at the southbound lanes and they were not moving at all so I skipped the freeway and took the backroads over to McGloughlin. I was waiting behind a small white car to turn left from Jennings to McGloughlin and saw the car make the left quickly to turn while she could through a small gap in the traffic. There was enough room for me to go too so I gave it some gas. The next thing I see is the woman slam on her brakes for no apparent reason mid crosswalk and stop. At first I thought she hit the car in the left turn lane on McGloughlin heading north so I slowly tried to clear the intersection and pass her heading into the outside southbound lane. As I came alongside her I was shocked to see the man she hit lying in the street. I was horrified and it literally took my breath for a second. I stopped in the lane blocking it so traffic could not cross Jennings and hit him or her. Fortunately, as I did this, my backside was lit up with a sherriff's lights. He was right behind me so I pulled to the curb so I could get out and help him. The sherriff waved me to move on so I drove off slowly knowing they would be in good hands. In this short amount of time another man, who was probably walking with him had him sitting on the curb so I am pretty sure he was ok.
I was pretty upset by the whole thing so I continued south on McGloughlin keeping my eyes peeled because people cross that street anywhere and everywhere. I found keeping about at least 5 car lengths between myself and the car in front of was a good decision as several in front of me who didn't found they couldn't stop very well in the river we were driving in.
I finally get to the 205 onramp on McGloughlin and take another look up ahead to see if traffic is moving better or I will just go over the hill and skip the freeway all together. Looks great on the bridge heading south but as I look before the bridge it is almost stopped. Hmmm. Do I go? I decide to take the freeway. I get on the onramp and mid ramp I look up at the beginning of the bridge and I can't quite figure out what i'm looking at. A big white something about 30 feet long with small white "squares" all down the length of it. (It's pouring and I cant make it out). I am almost to the top of the onramp and realize it's a trailer. Some pickup was towing this monster and somehow rolled the trailer on the bridge. The white "squares" were the roof vents etc. on (now the side) the trailer.
Holy Crap !!
I am so glad every day I make it home safe.
Please be careful and watch out for those who don't watch out for you.
