So I was up at bald peak today meet a nice guy with a bike that he just got yesterday. It was a honda cruiser of some kind he had a half helmet  no gloves  and not much of a jacket  . We rode down the back side of bald peak to farmington and river road. Then turned on to river road. There was a cemment mixer in front of us and a truck then him then me. I was following him to his place. Anyway he went to pass both of the vehicles and then the truck started to pass the cemment mixer and didn't see the guy I just met. The guy on the bike kept going instead of backing off of it and ended up going in the ditch then flew of the bike hit the ground helmet flew off and he went sliding on his head and lower back. Then cops showed up ambulance and all that stuff got everyones story and left. So some of the things I have learned today always wear your gear or atleast a full face helmet that fits rite so you don't f up your face or head.

Sad to hear that. There aint nothing you could have done. First of all it was a bad move on his part. Inexperience can kill.
You cant tell anyone anything. I see the no glove, short-shorts and sandals here, and I can only:( and say to myself... stupid people....
I couldnt even imagine myself without gloves and much less everything else. I would rather sweat my balls off.
.....I wonder if that guy buys a half head helmet again.:whip:

I know he is lucky he didnt hit the ditch and get flung under the truck. I completly agree with you. I even asked him why not a full face helmet when we were at bald peak. He said that guys that ride those kind of bikes didn't wear them.

WOW! That is no fun! I lost a friend of mine a few years ago from only running to the store in just a helmet, t-shirt and flip flops. Alaways gear up before you leave....Or it could be your last ride

I know that Ian you are doing good at taking it slow. He wasn't speeding though he just made a bad decision.

The biggest skill that new riders need to work on is descision making. Ian, if you can decide when your riding at or above your limit you have the best skill to avoid an accident. Everything gets easier from there

Those short, casual little trips are the ones that get people. They figure it's just a mile down the road, leave the gear home and then they get themselves hurt.
Familiarity breeds contempt, right?

Yep, been guilty of that. Definitely those little hops that get you in trouble.

Ask Lobes about little hops around the block. We didn't make it 100 yards before I was in the weeds and my bike was in the gutter. That was a sprained knee and a fractured tibia for me.
