In a banked curve are you still able to get your knee down? And how steep does the bank have to be to go beyond the physics of the bike? The reason why I ask this is I was noticing the on Johnson Creek onramp to I-205 North the other day and noticed that it had what looked to be a 9 degree bank. Maybe some of you racers could tell me more about this.

9 degrees is pretty substantial in terms of street riding. I see that ramp often but never really paid attention. As far as getting your knee down, it depends on the degree of banking. The more banking, the less lean angle you use. If you watch Daytona and Infinion where the AMA uses part of the banked oval tracks they carry very little lean angle. You are more likely to drag you knee on an off camber banked turn.

That's a fun onramp.....
It also depends upon how tall the rider is...
Tall riders (long legged) can touch much easier than short riders. Check out
Kevin Schwantz..he has very long legs and can touch with minimal lean angle
of the bike he's racing..

I wasn't ever planning on trying to drag knee on that on ramp or any other it just got my curiousity going. Thanks for all the info.
