Just heard that a 28 year old died from a head on collision with a truck going down Marcola Rd near shotgun creek. My mom saw it on the news, but I havnt heard if the rider is anyone we know on here.

Kinda weird too, cuz I live 2 miles away from Shotgun Creek and I havnt seen or heard anything at all that would suggest an accident.

Apparently the lady driving the truck had to drive away to get within cell phone reception to call for help. However the authorities thought that it was a hit and run at first.

My condolences go out to family and friends who knew the rider.

I just read the Register Guard. It was on the front page of today's paper. Apparently I was wrong on some details. The rider was 39 years old and the accident took place within Shotgun Creek recreation area not on Marcola Rd.

Looks like they both took a sharp, blind turn and they had little time to react. They ruled out alcohol and it sounds like to me they were both driving too fast in the area.

I actually had an accident involving my truck there. There are hairpin turns that are surprising and you can easily land yourself in an embankment. Not exaclty the best place to be riding, especially with the heavy ATV crowds.

For any future riders, I highly recomend staying out of the Shotgun Creek area unless your into dirtbikes, atvs, mud swimming (trucks).

Marcola Rd is a beautiful drive though, but atm there's some construction going on to widen the roads for cyclists.

stay safe and I look forward to seeing you guys on the road
