Mep, no excuses. The 05 Gixxer 1000 has more than enough wheelie power! :rad: Just open the throttle way up in a low gear and lean back. (In an appropriate environment, of course. )

There are a couple of ways to do it. What most people learn first is a power wheelie - powerful bike, throttle open and lean back. Then you can do other things that lead eventually to being able to balance and keep your RPMs constant (or even slow down), like bouncing the suspension to transfer weight back, slipping the clutch, using the back brake and moving your weight side to side.

I use my back brake and throttle controll. as far as not wanting to crash, Ive seen people crash when trying to wheelie for the first time. I'D say you have a little chance of crashing.

Took the bike out a bit this weekend and could not get the thing to come off the ground to save my life. I'm trying to slip the clutch and it's just not working. I can hammer on the throttle all day long and I can't seem to get my front end up (for a roll-on wheelie). I know this bike is capable...it's just rider error. Oh well, there is always next weekend.

1st things 1st. expect to crash. if u dont' have that rolling around in your head, u lose respect for the bike and yourself. 2nd, don't push and get frusturated. 3rd, don't have someone video record u for a while, camera make u push it and do more dumb s*i%. eheheh that pretty much sums it up.
alot is just timing, knowing where the bikes power curve is, and a bit of body english sometimes.
just grow the balls and run with it...................... eheheh did i mention, dont push it? eheheh
take 1 trick at a time till u feal comfortable to move on. even do curtain tricks with the bike straped in the back of a truck or on a stable stand that will hold u and the bike up till u really get it down.
it may help to ride right next to someone accually pulling a wheelie and then watch them clutch a wheelie to. ive done that with a couple buddies and it seems to give a better picture in the head as well.
anymore ?'s just pm me.

About the power curve - it's the torque you want, NOT the horsepower. Torque is what overcomes inertia.

The reason I'm buying a sport bike is because I want to do wheelie:)
What's the chance for a beginner to crash the bike? I still haven't broken in my motor yet, I'll have to try it.

Use that to your advantage you have long arms. Just sit on the passenger seat and that alone should do it but if it doesn't then just hit the gas a little.:iorun: :haha:

Well....I finally be able to lift the front wheel probably about a foot high:) I just pull the clutch rev it up to about 12,000RPM, let go the clucth...and there she goes. I want to feel comfortable at this first before I bring the front wheel higher or to find the BP. I ride my chopper more than my Ninja.. so not enough practice time but that's the reason I bought a sport bike...to do some sick wheelie:)

Drop a tooth on the front of that 6R and it'll be way easier. I had a bad experience once and will never try to clutch it up. I almost looped it. I'm sure Lobes recalls the incident as he had better then front row seats for it.

I probably could have reached over and pulled the front wheel down if I wanted to. I would say thats better than front row seats.

I'm probably way late in pointing this out, but weight shouldn't be a real factor. I accidentally pulled my first wheelie with a passenger. Sure, the weight bias made a difference, but I've seen plenty of stunters pullin wheelies with passengers sitting on the tank too.

I've been trying it with roll-ons since I first saw this thread. I still can't get it up (*awkward*). '02 Gixxer 1K. I was worried it was cuz I was maybe heavier (250lbs) but still, the bike has a lot of power lol.
I did get my first accidental wheelie the other week, however. Was riding with a friend and dropped into a nice hill while dropping down a gear and hammering it. LOL OH ****. That's quite the surprise when you've never felt that sensation before. (I've never been a dirtbike rider either) Also, this was prolly at 100mph or so. I literally giggled like a girl for about five minutes afterwards. Never been so giddy in my life. I feel like I handled it very well...just thought "ok this is a wheelie, put the bike down, NOW". LOL good times, I'm rambling now.

I've never owned a litre bike, but judging from what I've heard and seen, a rolling wheelie is very hard on a litre bike because the power band is in the higher rpms. I think that's why they mostly clutch wheelie the litres.
My bike has a lot of torque in the lower rpms that I can roll wheelie it almost anytime. I tried a clutch wheelie once and it scared the sh*t out of me.
I wouldn't mind finding a place that's a flat long wide road that people can gather and practice the wheelies and stuff. Scoutin' time!!:ride:

Come on now, I'm 350 lbs. with gear on, and I've done one for over 3/4 of a mile. for the guys (or girls) on 600's or 1000's clutch ups are easy, start in second gear, revs at 5500 to 6000, roll the throtle on and at the same time just dab. not grab, the clutch lever, just enough to run the rpm's to 10k or so, by that time the wheel should be on it's way up and the rev's on there way down, now just balence with the throttle and rear brake. don't forget to shift up or you will come crashing down on your naughty bits. never good
