Well I finally did it. I have seen many others do it and told myself it would never happen to me. But today it did. The day started out with a continental breakfast at PRI, then the customary waiting for everyone to get together. Well after all the small details were taken care of we were off.
We hit a couple of side roads and started to head toward the big twisties. Well on the way, Chris lost his back seat cover and it went into the wind. Not only did the cover go, so did the camera he had. Well needles to say the cover had minor damage, but the camera is toast.
After gathering out all the loose pieces, we were off again. Hit a couple of twisties, then headed to a local store where we met a local drunk. He thought our bikes were cool, and a small boy watched Karen take off her top, (that's another story) Well after a quick drink and some food, we put all our stuff away and headed down the road.
I turned onto Highway 42, excelerate somewhat fast only to feel something hit me in the back. I reached back and felt my rear seat floating just behind me. I was not quick enough to grab it and only was able to watch it as it spun down the road in front of everyone else.
Not only loosing two covers in one day embarrassing enough, When I went to recover the lost item, Tess told me she would hold onto it, because she did not want to get hit with it. With great apprehension she gave it back.
This brings me to the point, check you gear before heading off. In the tail section of my bike I had my wallet, cell phone and stuff I wanted to keep. I could only imagine if my wallet went flying into the wind. If you are like me and don't empty all the ATM receipts everyday, you could loose a weeks worth on the road. Now that would have been a mess. Even though we did not drop a bike this weekend, knock on wood, the other things like attachments to you bikes rake havoc and can be costly. Be careful Later Joe Joe
