Police said the dead deer was in a shaded area underneath the overpass and difficult to see when Robert Evans, 36, of Salem moved from the right lane to the center lane, in order to pass another vehicle.
“The motorcycle ran over a dead deer laying in the middle southbound lane. Evans was ejected over the handlebars onto the highway and the motorcycle went down on its side,” explained Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police.
Evans was hurt, but Hastings said he was wearing a helmet and his injuries were not life-threatening. Evans was transported to Salem Hospital for treatment.
No word on how or when the deer died.
